How long do you want to ignore this user?
I will be going into the Corps next year and had a quick question. On the Class of 2017 Corps of Cadets Facebook page, someone was asking about the best place to get a footlocker. I was under the impression that you were given/assigned one as part of your dorm. Was I wrong in that assumption? I guess on top of that, I was wondering what else I will need to provide for myself. Thanks in advance.

You will get a list over the summer of what you should and shouldn't bring. But if it is the same as last year, you will need to purchase your own footlocker.

Call Corps Housing tomorrow at (979)845-3443. I worked there for 4 years as a student and they have a pretty solid list. It used to be up on their website but I don't see it there anymore. They should be able to email it to you.

We were issued big grey tubs a few years ago. I got a footlocker too, I think it was from academy.

I bought one like this at academy. I even modified mine a bit so that I could put a tray across the top.

Academy has some. Might check at a local Army-Navy store.

Don't worry about anything too fancy, just get something big (you'll need to stuff some stuff in it quickly at times), and something sturdy (it'll function as a seat / stool for you and you buddies from time to time. )

But really, if you're going to be on here as a fish or sophomore, I would recommend not having your name, initials, outfit, or class year in your username. It will only lead to trouble. And that is experience talking, too.

It's just another Corps trip boys, we'll march in behind the band.

I went to an Army surplus store in Gatesville and bought a current Army footlocker (late 1980s era).

No markings on mine just OD Green paint.

Some of the other guys who had the kind like shown above did have more room. Was also a little heavier for them should they ever have to move it.

+1 on not using your real name, outfit, etc. on TexAgs until AFTER you're out. You'll get plenty of attention from upperclassmen without even trying. Don't give them any more reason to single you out.

So, dude on the internet says this was a 1943 design. Anyway, this is what mine looked like.

After 28 years, my behemoth of a foot locker is still with me. I think it is actually the one possession I have had the longest.

Lugging it from the parking lot to the dorm is a story my ol' lady still likes to tell.

I had one same as above that had been my brother's at A&M. Then my (nonreg) nieces used it. I tried to get it back from them for my son and found they had discarded it. I was not happy.

But I found my son one like it, painted it maroon, and hoped he was happy with it.

And back to the TexAgs user name. There is certainly nothing wrong with getting a TexAgs user name right now with your outfit and year. Just don't use it until you're at least a whitebelt. Point is, if there's a really neat name you want, "reserve" it now.

Along the same lines, don't use your Facebook account to talk about Corps stuff, certainly don't brag about how you're going to kick butt, etc. Your upperclassmen WILL be looking for your account.

In 1967 I bought one similar to the one in Rev 86's post. I still have it.

I didn't have any issues, but it was still during the early phases of TexAgs and I only posted infrequently. The only time it ever came up was when I was whipping out on the quad and an upperclassman put 2 and 2 together when he dropped with me.

Kids these days have it easy. Back in Ol' Army, when I was a fish, Facebook accounts didn't have privacy settings. Anyone on Facebook could see anyone else's profile and pictures, so we really had to be careful with what we said.

You're not really Old Army unless you took a programming class with punch cards.

My old man, class of '40, was pretty tight with a dollar, so I showed up as a fish with his footlocker from the war. I still have it in my attic somewhere. I plan to open it someday to see what I stuffed in it back when I graduated. It was stolen once when I was a senior, a few weeks before Thanksgiving, by the fish class. I retrieved it from the 50 yd line at halftime of the turkey day game. One of those funky old traditions long ago abandoned, I guess.

Yeah I wasn't planning on posting anything identifying on texAgs, or even really posting that frequently at all when I start. But are you recommending not using the Corps Class of 2017 Facebook page?

For example, a kid I knew in the Army ROTC posted something that criticized the ROTC Commander. He had a dive slot or something and got it taken away because the Commander had a view of some group they were on.

In short, watch what you say on the interwebz. Texags is a good way to vent and talk up a storm, but I would suggest using a name that hides your true identity, even though some people as stated before will put 2 and 2 together and some will know who you are. It has happened to me.
