For any Aggies who didn't get his email this morning, this is a letter from the CEO of The Association of Former Students.

Memorial Day: Aggies Remember

May 24, 2013

Howdy, Ags!

As you walk across the Texas A&M campus, you will find numerous tributes to Aggies who have given their lives in service to our nation. Individual monuments and memorials honor the noble men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts dating back to the Spanish-American War through today’s War on Terror, and our Memorial Student Center stands proudly as a living memorial to those who gave their lives in service to our nation in all conflicts, past and present. Without a doubt, Aggies remember.

As our nation pauses on Memorial Day to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation, the significance of this day resonates with Aggies. It is a day that aligns with our core values, especially the values of loyalty, respect and selfless service. As we each enjoy Memorial Day activities with friends and family, I invite you to reflect on the sacrifice this day represents and join with the Board of Directors and staff of The Association of Former Students in remembering the more than 1,100 Aggies whose selfless service is honored daily as Aggies remove their hats upon entering our MSC.

For more than a century, Texas Aggies have bravely and faithfully gone where duty has called and continue to do so today. We gratefully remember and honor those who did not return. We salute, as well, those who served with integrity and returned home to loved ones, and we look forward to the safe return of all those who loyally serve today!

With Gratitude,

I also want to honor my uncle, Ernest Byler, who was killed at Salerno in 1943.

Here,

And I want to honor my Dad, Captain Roger Simmons. Last year on D-Day, dad was at the American Cemetery at Normandy. Being the only veteran present that day, he was presented with the American Flag at the Flag Lowering Ceremony.

What an amazing generation!
