It's about identity and recognition. People think of Reveille and think collie. It's like smokey for Tennessee. Smokey is a blue tick hound because that's what he's recognized as. Rev will be a collie because that's people recognize her as.
So no one would know we were AGGIES w/o a collie...I really don't think of "Rev" when I think of Texas A&M. All classes before 19-- wanted a GS as a mascot, but we didn't get one. You're saying we "must" have a collie or we'll never be identified as AGGIES? I feel as though we might change breeds and be just as recognizable. The PR would certainly be good for us.
I'm not saying that people identify Aggies with a collie. I'm saying they identify our mascot as a collie. And for a school who has tradition as a major selling point, we would probably be doing ourselves a disservice to change something like that.
Rev has been a Collie for such a long time now (longer than she was a mutt) that people naturally associate A&M's mascot as being a Collie and the likelihood of that changing is slim to none.
Why are people debating what kind of dog she should be? You do realize that Rev 7 died, right? Rev 8 has been at A&M since 2008 and she will probably be around for many years to come.
