Found these pictures of a Tommy Thompson who attended training @ A&M in the 43-44 time frame.

Looks like old main and the corner of the drill field

Can someone ID the dorm in the background? I'm thinking Walton or Law/Puryear

The Aviation Cadet Training Class, maybe on the steps of the YMCA?

My dad was an Aviation Cadet at Mississippi State. He finished that program OK, but washed out of pilot training at Goodfellow Field, San Angelo, TX.

But he met my mom in San Angelo - married her after the war. I came along in 1947. So I guess it wasn't a total washout.

After my dad washed out, he went on to be a Flight Engineer on B-24's.

This is interesting to me as I am researching my grandfather's entry to WWII. He was a 2nd LT when it all started but rose the ranks quickly. In his personal records I have his Cadet Aviation training photo in 1941 in California. While he was not an Aggie he was a badass, IMHO.

So my question to the Ag's is when did aviation training begin at A&M?

Thanks for posting. My Dad was Class of '46 and flew in WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. I have a bunch of his pics from 1943 and on from A&M. Just really cool stuff.

Probably late 1942, because it was in place by 1943. If you watched the classic war movie "We've Never Been Licked" you will notice that Cadet Craig and his ol Lady Cyanide are taking flying lessons while students, and that movie came out in 1943

The dorm view is Puryear (right side) and Law (left side) in the photo. You can see aerial view of this portion of campus circa 1940 at http://arcims.library.tamu.edu/Maps-GIS/Brazos%20Co%20Aerials/40_clb5_45b.jpg

If you drill down to where Puryear and Law are located, you can see the crisis crossed sidewalks and the tree in the middle of the quad where the photo was taken.
