Just got this news from the Corps. This makes seven Corps units reactivated in the past couple of years.

quote:
Activation ceremonies for three former units, C-Company and C-Battery – part of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band – and Squadron 4 will take place next week at the plaza in front of the Sanders Corps of Cadets Center.

C-Company and C-Battery will have a joint ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 23 and Squadron 4 will hold their ceremony at 11 a.m. on Saturday August 24. Each ceremony will include the unit activation ceremony and remarks from the Commandant of the Corps, unit commanders and former unit members. Both ceremonies will be followed by a reception inside the Sanders Corps Center for current cadets and former students.

For 137 years, the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets has been producing leaders of character and preserving Aggie traditions. The individual units in the Corps have developed their own unique histories and traditions while maintaining a solid, united union of the Corps of Cadets.

Throughout Corps history, various units have stood down for differing reasons — gone, but never forgotten — especially by their former members, eager to see their beloved units restored.

In 2012, the decision was made to reactivate two units, Squadron 1 and Company F-1. Last year, the decision was made to reactivate two additional units, Squadron 6 and Company S-2, to accommodate the steady growth of incoming students eager to be part of the storied Corps of Cadets. There are plans to reactivate more units in the near future as the Corps continues to grow and the need to have more units increases.

“Over the past two years, we have reactivated four units, all of which have done well and are thriving again. With the Corps growing every year (we project almost 2,500 cadets for this fall semester, the largest in over 40 years) one priority is to ensure we have the proper place for all of them. I am very pleased to add these three additional units, C-Company and C-Battery, part of our 460-member Aggie Band, and Squadron 4, to the ranks of the Corps of Cadets as well,” said Brigadier General Joe E. Ramirez, Jr. ’79, commandant of the Corps. “They are a part of our Corps history and will be a new source of pride for our current cadets. The former cadets who were members of these units will be pleased to see their guidons once again flying on campus. By reactivating units with a history and tradition that is already a part of Texas A&M, we bring the past and the present together.”

The Commander of C-Company will be Joshua Hewett ’14. The Executive Officer will be Peter Schneider ’14, and the 1st Sergeant will be Justin Tash ’15. The Commander of C-Battery will be Steven Hankins ’14. The Executive Officer will be Robert Hartmann ’14, and the 1st Sergeant will be Christopher Martin ’15. The Commander of Squadron 4 will be Daniel Lengyl ’14. The Executive Officer will be Drew Zwicker ’14, and the 1st Sergeant will be Joel Thompson ’15.

I just hope they standardize unit size. No more 20 man outfits. Need to be at least 50 members to start the academic year.

I'd rather see outfits that drop below a certain number get dissolved than forcibly take away fish from some outfits and give them to the ones that put no effort into recruiting, or intentionally try to weed down their fish class.

That is too many cadets in the band; 12 ranks by 38 files = 60 yards in block band?

The CAMs were told yesterday that the Corps will probably add a 3rd Regiment next year along with a couple more Squadrons to the Regiment

News I learned of yesterday is that the Band has to go down the road of rotating those who can march and when. This has been done in the past, but not to this scale.

Drill Rehersals have been severely impacted as well. Reduction to only 2 days allowed to utilize the Aggie Band Drill Field behind the dorms. Curious if this is as a result of Residence Life trying to keep people living in southside dorms? Sorry if your precious sleep is damaged because of the need to make sure the FTAB continues to maintain the a level of profficiency. It has been that way for decades.

Now they have a mandatory use of the Aggie Football Indoor Facility 2 days a week. The Fire Marshall won't allow more than those necessary to reherse that weekend's drill.

Another Fire Marshall kick in the juevos, he has placed a limit on how many can reherse inside the band hall. All former Aggie Bandsmen understand the noise level and wore ear plugs. So maybe this is not a bad thing, but I am expecting to start receiving copious amounts of mail outs pertaining to the New Band Hall Construction project that was buzzing around in 2005.

Also, how did we end up with such a high concentration of piccilos? Drummers and brass are one thing, but what the heck are we doing with all of these whistles. Suggestion is to transition them to another instrument. Heck give them a Bass and help increase the size of the section for the march-ins.

Starting with 460 is 12 x 38 + 3 drum majors leaves 1 on the sideline (Assuming 0 Punch out during FOW which is highly unlikely despite the newer softer Corps Standards). So the Rice Game will be the largest Aggie Band Drill for the season. Also Band Dates have gone from white belts only last year to Zips only (Thank you SEC rule to not allow equipment on the track). Thank God I lucked out with all 4 years with a band date to enjoy the game with. Plus this increases the concentatration of stinky class b uniforms during the game.

Done with rant. It is good to see the Corps Grow, but it does come with new challenges.

Well when they start fund raising for a new band hall, here's one CT who will gladly donate to help the "Voice of the Spirit."

DevilD77, you need to look at the Military forum, someone is asking about you in the "Help w/locating photo owner" thread. The entire thread is about a D-1 photo.
