There are 900 fish starting FOW today!! When did they move FOW to Wednesday??

Last year.

The first days are to get schedules set and a few classes in time management etc.

Just got done volunteering there.

a few new rules: no pointing at the fish as that is considered hazing; and I'm hearing there will be a select few pheads that will be allowed to discipline fish, even during the school year.

God knows we don't want to put any stress on the ARMY and MARINE CORPS' FUTURE OFFICERS! Their life will be all rainbows and unicorns when they deploy to the Middle East. No stress, no worries - just like the new corps.

I also volunteered with the Corps of Cadets Association. What a process FOW check-in is! I had no idea. Those new fish are getting quite a bit of support early on.

As I told several fish with whom I chatted, I hope they stick with it for four years. They'll be glad they did.

That's pretty cool that y'all were volunteering to help with the FOW in-processing. That would be something cool to do if I lived a bit closer.

Son moved in yesterday as a brand new fish and needless to say, he has an extremely proud mom and dad supporting him. I'm jealous of the amazing times and opportunities that await him!

No pulling boots? No good bull chow? What do you do in the Corps for fun now?

We dropped Longstreet #2 son off yesterday. The goodbye was hard, especially on his sisters, but he's pretty excited to be there.

I was impressed. From the moment we were directed where to park until the end of the Commandant's address we were made to feel welcomed and important. I could have eaten my weight in hot dogs and still not made a dent in the supply!

I was very pleased to see how much support, academic and otherwise, is offered to the cadets.

I know! #2 son just sent me a pic of his awesome new Corp-approved haircut, and there was a Dr Pepper bottle in the background. THE NEW CADETS ARE ALLOWED TO DRINK SODEE POPS!!!

I chatted with several of you folks. You guys were across the board friendly, welcoming and informative. My wife and daughters really appreciated it, as did I.

My younger brother is an Aggie (not in the Corps though), but I never attended. I've preaching about A&M for years, but when the time came to leave my son I was still apprehensive; he's the first one to leave home. You guys made it a good experience. Again, thank you.

Longstreet: Do you know if all the units are getting the haircuts today? Or is it staggered over the next few days? With 900 fish, there is going to be quite a mountain of hair in those shops!

Not a clue. That would be a lot of haircuts...

I believe they're staggered and at different shops.

My son texted us a short note last night telling us that
1) It was an extremely long day,
2) Everything was going well, and
3) They got their haircuts yesterday

Sounds good so far... It will be fun getting the details after fish review next weekend...

they got cuts yesterday and they go all over town to several barbershops for a few hours, so it works okay.

We ended up taking the kids on an impromptu visit to campus today and saw a bunch of the FOW kids learning how to dress and cover out on the quad. Some of the cadre could drop a few pounds.

BTW, looked at the photos above. WTF are some of those fish doing smiling? There's no smiling in FOW. I'm not sure if I have any memories of any of my fellow fish smiling for most of the Fall semester and very rarely through the Spring. Even at final review, we were just mostly relieved. Of course, we went from 25 fish to about 12 that year. Not sure what attrition is like today now that fish are guaranteed never to experience stress.

When I was a fish we were given a shock & awe type of welcome. No good bull at all until Thursday evening. It's my understanding that now the cadre is supposed to sort of ease the fish into Corps a little more. Plus, typically the more seniors get involved in FOW the more relaxed it is in my opinion. Depending on the outfit, butts generally do a better job of not good bulling with the fish.

The Corps of Cadets seem to be on a path to sustainable growth. Bravo Zulu to the Commandant, the upper class cadets, and to the Corps of Cadets Association.

Please tell me this isn't true?!?

Thought I heard batt fish had gone away also. But that might be a positive since it will put an end to all the outfits who made their fish dress up in those stupid ass costumes and send them off the quad to get the papers. Gotta have some sense self/situational awareness.

Do they even print the batt on paper now?

Haha I told my mom about that and she just laughed and asked if she can start filing hazing charges against state troopers
