Hoping to move to Texas once my contract with the PA National Guard is up. I would like to go back to A&M and finish my degree, and I'm considering getting back into the Corps. Does it make more sense to go back to my outfit or join V-1/Spider D?

it depends on what class you are and what outfit you were in?

SQ-3 C/O 2010 (2011 according to the Association).

Part of me wants to finish with the unit I started with while the other part says stay away from the 17-22 year olds.

The other thing is, I was trying to join the Air Force while I was at A&M, but since leaving have tried out Army ROTC and eventually joined the Army NG. It would be kind of silly to go back to an Air Force heavy unit wouldn't it?

Since all of your buddies are gone I'd suggest starting with a new outfit. My question is are you returning as a p head or as a fish?

I'm not quite sure what my classification will be just yet. I will most likely do a semester or two as a non-reg first to bring up my GPR and re-acclimate to college, but it's looking like I will be a PH again for a semester. Oh well. Whatever it takes to earn my boots, ring, and degree.

My Penn State girlfriend is almost more excited than I am about me going back. And now she wants in on some of the Aggie action too. In fact, after she gets her BS in Criminal Justice this Spring, she is going to Army OCS and applying to the new TAMU School of Law as soon as she can. I'm hopefully getting my BS in Criminal Justice NEXT Spring and getting the hell out of Pennsylvania. Gonna be weird putting the khaki back on, especially with an Infantry cord.

We had a great guy join our class. He was about 25, so of course we called him Pops. He started late because he was helping pay his sister's way through college. When she graduated and got a job, she helped pay his way.

The difference was that he was not in the military. One wonders how someone with military service will tolerate Corps crap.

My brother was in the Corps for a year and a half, left in January '67, then joined the Army, went to Vietnam, and came back three years later to be a sergebutt in the Corps. His US Army medals apparently kept all the BS away from him. He was treated with a great deal of respect by the younger cadets. He said no one ever gave him crap about anything, even the Bulls.

StykerAg,
The best way for a former Corps and Army veteran to "re-acclimate" to college here at A & M is through the Corps. I am the 3de BDE CTO (D-1 is one of the outfits in 3rd BDE), so give me a call and we can discuss what would be the best option for you. My office number is 979-458-4279...1SG Cassle by the way.

Good luck, StrykerAg. 1SG Cassle is a good guy. Agree on the active duty medal BS repellent deal. You won't have any trouble once you eyeball some whitebelt and smile the smile of someone who has seen the elephant.

Doesn't look like you will be back in Aggieland for another year, but if this is still going on next year, may be pretty cool.

Are you a student at Texas A&M and a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces? The Veteran Resource and Support Center (which is financially supported by donors to The Association), in conjunction with Aggie Athletics, wants to thank you for your service and sacrifice to our country by recognizing one student veteran every football game prior to the raising of the flag and national anthem. Texas A&M University has a unique tradition of military service. Countless Aggies have gone off to fight and returned to finish their degrees and many continue to serve while attending A&M. Unfortunately, many of our current students have not heard the stories from our most recent Aggie veterans. To participate, call student veteran Cesar Sarabia ’08 at (979) 845-3161 as soon as possible.

Ha! Well, I was the CO of V-1 in 96-97 and I'd recommend going that route. I was 26 when I frogged in as a pisshead. Enjoyed living off campus and avoiding some of the corps games on the quad. You kind of get to choose how much you want to participate that way. I loved the corps and by the time I was a senior I wanted to be CO but I was also a combat vet (Desert Storm) with a CIB who didn't relate well to the 18-20 year olds in a number of ways. Plus, it made having girlfriends easier. ;-)

We keep you alive to serve this ship. Row well, and live!

I was the V-1 1SG several years ago after a taking a break from school to be a Ranger. I couldn't have survived going back to my old outfit to play grab-ass. I highly recommend the Vulture (or whoever they are now) Company

Appreciate everyone's input. I sent you a PM, 1SG Cassle, in case you haven't seen it yet.

Since my last posting, I've talked to my advisor at my current school, and I am on track to graduate with my criminal justice degree by December 2014, or as early as Summer 2014 if I can get into the classes I need. I plan on transferring back to A&M the semester immediately after my graduation and picking up where I left off with my Spatial Science degree. One semester as a non-reg to improve my GPA and then hopefully frog back into the Corps. Thanks again everyone. It's all up to me from here
