Howdy,

I've seen some King Air's pull up to the David Wayne Hooks Airport lately and was wondering what program they would be a part of in order to be flying fixed wing compared to helos. Thanks for the insight!

Some officers (usually lieutenant colonels) and warrant officers (usually CW4s) get selected for VIP duty, which includes C12 and Leer qualification. The Army also has some Sherpas and other small regional cargo planes that the Air Force deems too small to whine about

The pilots that I have run into have been helicopter pilots who transitioned to fixed wing. To my knowledge there is no way to start out life as a fixed wing pilot in the Army.

Why wont they just give the Army fixed wing CAS? Imagine a Cav sqaudron with a dozen or so Super Tucanos.

That would be rehashing a 1950's battle all over again. One that comes up everytime the AF wants to move away from CAS platforms.
