I had the privilege to attend Mr. Clarence Sasser's Medal of Honor ceremony today, and a couple of quotes stuck out to me during his speech

“One of the greatest regrets that I have in my life… the only regret that I am responsible for is that circumstances conspired, contrived, or otherwise… where I did not graduate. I deeply regret that, but life goes on. I do feel I am a hell of a lot better off stepping foot on this campus, than had I had I not… it is that type of institution, there’s a camaraderie, there’s a kinship here, like no where else.”

“I am particularly proud that my Medal of Honor was for saving lives, rather than taking lives”

I'm proud to say I had the privilege to thank and shake hands with such a honorable man.

Is the fact that he didn't graduate the reason we didn't already have this for him? Just curious.

Good question. Probably it's because all the MOH recipients previously honored attended A&M before the award, so we can claim we had something to do with their training and attitude.

But since my day, we've added Carswell (who graduated from TCU after starting at A&M) so one supposes somebody looked around and decided that attending A&M after the award should also qualify.

And I realize that "award" isn't the best term, but having a brain fart as to a good term.
