Recognize anyone? This is the Aggie Band marching in San Antonio at the Battle of Flowers parade in April of 1976.

(You fixed it while I was out to lunch....Thanks)

Rank 7 file 2. Can't see much of me, but pretty sure. Always loved BoF parade. San Antonio loves Aggies. And there's nothing quite as cool as halting on the Alamo Plaza and doing the whole Recall, Step off on Hulabaloo thing.

Copied it so I could rotate it.

5th Zip from the right on Bugle Rank is Stephen Stone, RIP. Lots of good tales about him and his running buddy, Froppe, 2 guys to the right. But I would be telling tall tales.

We've also lost Mark Herrington, 2nd from left.

Could name several others.

Well, that picture sorta ruins my image of the Aggie Band, as I always thought that Class A summers was the uniform of the day for parades, game day, etc.

It was for game day, always. I don't recall why we went with no tie. I'm sure I was glad we did.

Notice anything else about the uniforms? (Look at the shirts)

BoF weather was often in the mid 90°'s and humid. Short sleeves and no white ascot worked just fine back in the day. Looks like the pic was taken as the band wandered down Broadway, early part of the parade, note the Third Street sign.

I personally walked in the BoF 7 times. Always hot and sweaty.

1) We always wore T-shirts backwards. Made a better line and didn't sag.

2) We always marched without name tags. The thought was that we were not individuals when we marched, we were one, we were The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band.

A year or two back at a football game, I thought I saw the BQs with nametags, so I was wondering if that tradition died.

So you couldn't have a last name, but you could wear any feel good ribbons, cords, etc? The Corps comes up with some truly retarded **** in the name of "unity".

And the backwards t-shirts didn't look better, they look like you're wearing a t-shirt backwards... until they ride up and you get vagina neck (because it's backwards)

Personally I never wore my t-shirt backwards. Agreed, it looked stupid to me.

This is the first I've heard of that tradition applied to the band. I believe silver taps buglers might have done that when going out to play taps, but I wasn't a bugler so couldn't say for sure.

We were wearing nametags my fish year in '99, and I never heard of any of our upperclassmen mention it was ever any different.

I think the Band first got their epulet(?) shields in the Spring of 1970. Prior to that another way to spot a BQ in uniform was the lack of them. Seems like Bass players did not wear shields when playing - got in the way of the horn on their shoulder. I am fuzzy on whether or not we wore nametags when we were in 'public' or not. Would differ to another old guy of my era on that bit of trivia. Seems like we didn't but I could be wrong.

I think that we went without nametags for games, etc. But it's only by looking at old photos I can confirm.

Canyon, your first pic was fall of '72, those were '73 zips. Russell Braden, was the green tabber, CO of White Band. Then Howard Kelly. Then a very famous Maroon Band guy, Dave Stockard. Forget the next one. Then Buddy Bright. Then Dee Delafosse.

Dave Stockard stories are legendary. No one EVER caught more cr_p than Dave. But he never quit and posted a 3.8 in Civil Engineering. Hung around for his MS, too. Dave's long time MB old lady actually had sex change operation and became a real old lady about 20 years go. Dave was quite a guy.

Was he/she a trombone player? I remember seeing her/him at the 1994 reunion band and thinking "I thought fish Abat was the first woman in the band."

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. Names don't matter on this little bit of Aggie Band trivia.

I was there. Just yesterday, I was cleaning out my parents' house and found many old letters from Mark Herrington, Ben (Froppe) and Steve. Bittersweet.

The darkest one in that particular spot, CanyonAg. I never claimed to be the darkest one in the Aggie Band. My classmate Cornelius "Corny" Guillory would also take issue had I claimed to be the "darkest" in the Band. Lighten up and read what I said.

"Lighten up" is not an approved TexAgs policy.

Ha! Missed that when I joined. Explains a LOT, though...
