Any way to find out what outfit a former student belonged to?

Grandfather was class of '34. Now that my son is a fish in the Corps, we have become curious as to what outfit his great-grandfather might have belonged too.

Anyone know if that information was documented somewhere that we might be able to access?

Try the Former Student Directory. I believe they have the outfit affiliation listed as part of the biographical information.

Thanks, DevilD77, but no go. It is listing his Corps outfit as "unknown".

You might try reaching out to the Sanders Corps of Cadets center.

Great ideas. I'll check with the Corps center when we visit on Parent's weekend. Thanks.

I'll PM Vestal_Flame. I believe he collects Aggielands/Longhorns, he might be able to look for you.

1932-34 area hole (in fact the latest large hole) in my collection. I'm sorry. AFarmer can probably help. I know that he has '33-'34.

Thanks for trying. Was that a period of low enrollment (due to depression)? Or just few yearbooks being printed, also due to depression?

You may want to contact the Aggieland Yearbook office and have them check. They have shelves of old yearbooks (at least back to a lot of the early Longhorns) in the manager's office.

There is (or at least were) at least one, and possibly more, depositories of the Longhorn yearbook (name between the Olio and The Aggieland). The Sterling Evans Library has all yearbooks. At one point in time, I believe the Sanders Corps Center did as well.
Regarding structure of these books (at least based on the 1924-1930 editions) - there are no head shots of fish and sophomores. Seniors each have a head shot with details - outfit, etc. Juniors are head shot and hometown. Check outfit pages - these list all members. Recall that these will be listed not by class, but more often by rank (1st year to 4th year privates, then corporals, sergeants, and officers.

Pretty sure that my folks still have my Grandad's old Longhorns back at their place. I'll plan on checking when I'm there for Easter.

Thanks Ags.

My grandfather was Class of '34 as well! Unfortunately, he left school in '33 due to academic issues (kept booting chemistry as a PetE major!). Anyway, I have his "Longhorn's", but I've never been able to spot what outfit he was in. If anyone has a moment to look him up, here's the info:

Mendel Booth Word, Jr.
Hometown: Either Beaumont or Port Arthur
Major: I believe Petroleum Engineering

ADD: I'm working overseas with the military or I'd go through my grandad's books myself. Thanks!

San Antonio A&M Club has many old Longhorns/Aggielands in their library. www.aggiepark.com
Give them a call.

Asked my mom to check and sure enough, she had his '34 Longhorn yearbook.

Checking the yearbook it states that he was part of Company A Engineering which apparently was a specialty unit from 1931 until 1960. He died when my mom was very young, but I sure wish he was around. I can only imagine the stories that he could have passed on to my son.

DogCo84: When I head to the parent's for Easter, I'll be happy to check for your grandad's name in the yearbooks.
