Any of y'all exchange MREs with soldiers from another country? Are tastes comparable?

I have had Italian, French, and British versions of MREs. With each of these, you only received one box, or meal set, for the entire day, and there wasnt much in them. They certainly did not equal three of our MREs for a day. You could eat the whole darn thing at once, or ration yourself for the day.

The French one contained many tins of food, not baggies, and their variety was awesome. I had rabbit, duck, some sort of horse meat, and some others that I found interesting.

The Italian one was pretty bland, but it did contain a small shot size bottle of the worst rot gun alcohol I have ever tasted. It also contained very little to tide you over for a day.

The best by far was the British meals. These, however, required you do do some cooking, as the rice was raw and you had to boil it if you wanted to eat it. The one I had contained a fairly large tin of beef stew, and was absolutely delicious. It also had a large tin of cured bacon, about six inches in diameter. It was like the took a strip of bacon and rolled it, then rolled it onto another, and kept going until you had this massive amount of bacon and then stuffed it into the tin. It was some of the best bacon I have ever had. It also contained some of the best tea I have ever had also, very strong but not bitter. Go figure.

Overall, I found the French MREs to have the greatest variety, but if you were to survive on one meal set per day, you would be pretty hungry at the end of the day.

I've only ever had the British, and maybe it was just the one I had but I thought it was awful. Then again it's kinda hit or miss with ours too. Btw, eating 3 MREs a day sounds like a bad idea, one of those things packs around 1200 calories. Imagine the weight you'd gain, and the time you'll have to wait before using the bathroom again!

The Spanish Marines didn't really have MREs. They had semi warm chow brought to the field. But, they got a beer ratio with lunch.

While in Japan I had the JGSDF MRE…….needless to say MRE rice, fish, and seaweed was pretty damn scary. I think I got about 1/8 thru it and quit.

Imagine the weight you don't gain by not being a POG and actually working and burning calories.

The Japanese one sounds a lot like the ones in the ROK. Wasn't a fan to say the least!

Was in Kuwait right after the first Gulf War and exchanged a meal with a British Soldier. He was ecstatic about the exchange and after I started eating his meal, I found out why. Their "MRE" was atrocious and looked something similar to our old C-rations with canned goods. The "meat" was primarily solidified fat and their canned fruit tasted like they put a fresh pear in water.

I threw the rest of it out.

Brit DFac at Basra airport was not the desired location to dine in 2007. VERY grateful when KBR and the Army showed up in 2008.

I had a French MRE that had a Cognac.

None of the int'l MREs I had were as good as ours. The best part of ours was that even if you didn't like the main portion, there was usually other foods you could eat and get by on. You can't say that about the others.

Pretty much any of ours or theirs could always be made more edible by cooking up ramen and mixing it and dousing it with tabasco, season salt, or both.

My CO traded MREs with a Recon CPT from the French Tank brigade during Desert Shield. Traded isn't exactly what happened. The French CPT gave us a couple of their MREs but wouldn't take any of ours in exchange. Basically, he said ours sucked. He was telling the truth. It made us laugh.

Theirs were pretty good.

The British chow hall at Bastion was significantly better than the Marine ones. By that I mean the TCN's that ran theirs made better food than the TCN's that ran ours.

The Brits have Chicken Tikka Masala. That sounds like it has potential. But who knows once it's all processed and packaged.
