Hi everyone. This is cross posted on a couple of other boards, but I thought it might be more useful here. Content is not military related, but it is a group that sends care packages to soldiers.

First, I apologize for the quality of these pictures. These are some Easter cookies I'm sending overseas via Operation Cookie Takeover. It's basically a group of cookie people that volunteer to send cookies over to soldiers. It's an organized deal and the recipients seem to enjoy it. And when I say cookie people volunteer, I mean tons of cookie people volunteer. On short notice (less than a week)for this Easter one, 12 people volunteered, with most sending 2 dozen. They don't just send enough for 1 person. If an address is given, best efforts are made to send enough for the whole unit.

So, why am I telling all of you guys this? The next big cookie operation is going to be for the 4th of July. If you search for Operation Cookie Takeover on facebook, you can information - including where to send a name and address for cookies to be sent to. I know a lot of you here have friends and family that are deployed, and thought you might want to put their names in the pot for a delivery.

If you don't have access to facebook and would like to participate, let me know and I'll get you an email to submit the name and address to.

Don't.

They always show up dried out.

Put a piece of bread in each of the ziplock bags to keep the cookies fresh.

Very nice gesture, but they really will show up a little dried out.

If you really want to give deployed soldiers a taste of home, send cigarettes and dip. I know this sounds terrible, but the enlisted guys love it and there is usually a shortage on smaller bases.

BTW, I don't smoke or dip.

Put them in freezer zip lock bags and make sure all the air out of them.

My wife sent me and the guys cookies all the time in Iraq and Afghanistan. They were most appreciated and didn't last long that was for sure.

Wow thanks. You guys are awesome. I'll be sure to tell the hundred or so other volunteers not to waste their time too.

You could try replacing some of the sugar with instant vanilla pudding. The cornstarch in the pudding helps keep the cookies soft and moist in my experience.
