How long do you want to ignore this user?
My daughter has been offered to PCS to either of these two bases, so I am wondering if anyone has been stationed there or lived in/near either of these two bases. I would think that Warren would be the better of the two since it is located at Cheyenne, whereas Malstrom is in the smaller town of Great Falls in Montana. Anyhow, any insight on either would be appreciated so we can help her figure out her best option. She isn't happy at all with those two options.......I told her that I survived being stationed at Ft Polk, so she can make do with Wyoming or Montana.

I've been to Warren numerous times, but never lived there. It's a nice little town, and there is a lot to do that isn't that far away. Malmstrom is just a lot more remote, but I know people who loved it there.

I have been to Great Falls several times. It seems like a nice little town. As you point out, it is pretty remote. It is two or three hours from Glacier National Park, which is nice. But other than that, the location is not near anything. At least at Cheyenne she would be a few hours from Denver if she wanted big city stuff as a change of pace. Sorry, I don't know anything about the bases themselves.

Ryan and IDAGG, thanks for the insight. I wiki'd both of them and checked them out on the googles, and it does seem like Warren is the pick of the two. As with anywhere, it is what you make of it.

I don't know if she cares about military history at all, but Warren is an old Army fort from the 1860s and a lot of the buildings, including base housing, are historic.

People make the tour though, so she may want to learn more about the unit she could potentially go to.

Based on recent reports on the the very sad state of our nuke missile forces, I doubt there is much difference between the two in that regard.

Warren beats Great Falls in my book because it is close to Denver. Great Falls isn't close to anything other than great hunting and fishing,.

Edit: mickeyrig - I don't disagree with your post in general, just saying it may not be applicable in this case. And I would also add that the "people" can change pretty damned quick, which can change the dynamics of an organization almost overnight, especially in overseas units. I have personal experience in that happening - several times as a matter of fact.

Thanks to all for the info. Although she isn't happy with either, and isn't going to be offered any other duty station before PCSing, she is going to put Warren on her dream sheet to try to avoid Malstrom. She called Warren yesterday and they are standing up aviation elements, and Aviation Resource Management is her MOS. I laughed and told her to keep her winter studded tires, as she will need them in Cheyenne also.
