Anyone been stationed there? I got my RFO yesterday and household 6 is displeased to say the least. I'm looking for some upside and selling points. She is a elementary school teacher and it looks like there are some hoops to jump through to get certified, she is pretty concerned about the kind of schools available for our kids, cost of living etc etc.

Lived there as a kid and I loved it. Schools were actually good from what I remember. Winter is long, summers are awesome, it gets cold, but it is what you make it.

Oh and if you move in summer drive the ALCAN. If it is winter take the ferry from Seattle.

Never been near the place, but I sure have met a lot of folks who were stationed there who loved it. Very, very few who hated it.

Same as the above poster, all my friends who have been there loved it. Also pretty sure the BAH there is pretty good as well as the COLA. You used to be able to look through AKO at the housing on military bases and find out floor plans, bah, and cola rates.
