I want to commission into either Active Duty or in the Reserves. I am in my 2nd year at A&M, I want to get my masters here, but I plan to double major which would take 5 years for my undergrad, and then get my masters here. So my question is should I frog in for the spring semester, or wait till the fall? I want to join the Corps, but don't want to wait or waste anymore time. So should I wait till the fall so I can get the full fish year, or should I go ahead an frog in?

My opinion: If you are going to be at A&M for 4 additional years, start as a fish. It's hard (not impossible) to make the connection and become part of a class that's already gone through the fish year together.

Here's an odd thought...can you join in the next week? Sure you missed FOW and a lot of crap, but there's still a bunch of fish year left to go. Bet you can get up to speed quickly.

I wanted to add a disclaimer and clarification. I can think of 4 frogs off the top of my head who earned my respect and I count(ed) as friends and members of my/their class. Sometimes they have to swallow a bunch of crap, and do it without the support of "fish buds". I think it's a lot harder way to go about it, unless there are special circumstances. Hence my comment that if you're going to be there 4 more years, go all the way.

Frankly your maturity will be a great help to you and your classmates. Whether you jump in now or next fall.

Probably one of the most beloved members of my BQ class frogged in 2nd year, and was about 7 years older than the rest of us because he put his sister through college before he started, then she helped him. He was also black when there were maybe 4 black men in the Band. I think it said a lot for his character that he succeeded and won our friendship when he was so different in many ways.

If you sign up in January you would bea tadpole. Had one of my buddies do that, worked out fine, and was much better than frogging in.

You should be a fish next year or be a tadpole. One of my best friends in my class was our tadpole. He earned everything and when it came time for him to earn his brass, we helped him because he had our respect. He was in my wedding and I was in his! Our wives our friends and we still hang out when we can.

So there's no confusion, OP like AEK said you'd be a tadpole starting in January. A frog is someone who joins the outfit as a sophomore, never experiencing life as a fish. That is a tough route.

Everyone is a fish for at least one semester since 2003 (class of 2006). There is no distinction between frogs and tadpoles anymore. Sq 18 and K-1 are the out-of-cycle outfits.

Glad you cleared that up, that was something I've never heard of before. Nothing wrong with frogging in the spring, was interesting to see fish running with two amus once I had my brass last year.

Technically, they weren't suppose to be called "frogs" anymore after the change was made to train them all together as fish, but it's a term that is so ingrained in Corps history that it's probably never going away.

Hope not. God forbid someone gets their feelings hurt....
