There was a thread started on this topic a couple of months ago.....

As most of us noticed, there was not a space to add extra contributions to PMC and FTAB on the commitment renewal this year.

Long story short, I have been told that the TMF was apprehensive about including the lines for these extra contributions along with the increases in football ticket costs, moving seats, etc.

I was also told that the TMF has promised to send out a special mailing to request these donations apart from the ticket renewals.

In the past PMC has received almost $40,000 and FTAB almost $200,000 from these contributions each year.

It will be imperative that we respond to the TMF request, or donate to PMC/FTAB directly to maintain the level of alumni support that these two traditions rely on!!!

I am not sure that TMF gathers anything for any other student groups. PMC/FTAB are obvious ones due to their game day activities.

They are the only student activities that I donate to through the TMF. My other donations go to TAMU Foundation, CoC Association (for Corps athletics), and AFS.

I can ask.......

Does the Cadet Corps Assoc. still only provide 10% of contributions to the Corps?

I started that thread a few months ago and still have NOT received an acceptable reason. I also got the babble from the TMF but the excuse just doesn't hold water. It is 100% voluntary , it is a very easy and convenient way to donate AND it was effective BUT this new TMF is extremely aggressive and take no prisoners in their fundraising. Hiring the head of the Houston Rodeo as Exec Dir proves that. They simply just DO NOT want to have ANY competition from ANYBODY in their endless quest for funds.
I am, by necessity NOT desire, a member of the TMF and have to pay a healthy extortion in order to have fairly decent seats in Kyle, its what I am willing to pay in order to attend and enjoy Aggie football. I also consider the Aggie Band, the Corps and PMC as a huge part of the gameday experience and I doubt I would be willing to pony up the huge pot of $$ to the TMF to be allowed to buy season tickets IF the Band and the PMC etc were NOT part of the gameday experience. I'm STILL waiting for that so-called separate mailer or a spot on the TMF's HORRIBLE to navigate website where I can easily donate....... tick tick tick....

BTW: in the event that the TMF does not follow thru with their promise of support is there a Corps website where we can donate directly to the FTAB and the PMC ?? Also , already a member of CCA and am curious about the comment above regarding the 10%...anybody have any info on the amount CCA gives?
Thanks

To The Original AG 76,

Howdy, my name is Kyle Bryson '09 and I work for the Texas A&M Foundation as the Assistant Director of Development for the Corps of Cadets. TAMF Development Staff

There are direct ways you can give to the FTAB and PMC through the Texas A&M Foundation. If you choose to do so online please click on the following link. give.am/supportcorps

If designating your gift select: "Direct my gift to a specific account within the Corps of Cadets" and choose one or more of the options that are displayed.

For the Aggie Band :
  • Aggie Band/University Bands Building Fund
  • Aggie Band Travel Endowment
  • Eternal Aggie Band Endowment
For Parsons Mounted Cavalry:
  • Parsons Mounted Cavalry Endowed Fund
The options we display online are the priorities for the Corps and the most frequently given to online. There are many other great programs, outfits and events that our Cadets are involved in that would more than appreciate any support. If interested to learn more about other Corps of Cadets giving opportunities or establishing endowed accounts (scholarship or programmatic) please feel free to reach out to me.

Kyle,
Thanks for the quick info. I absolutely will be moving my donation to the Foundation instead of thru the TMF.

Kyle, thanks for the info. What is the difference between donations to endowed funds and the other?

Kyle -

Of the donations earmarked for Corps of Cadets organizations, how much actually goes to the designated organization and how much is utilized for administrative costs? I know that when I give to USO, Wounded Warrior Project, etc, it's always difficult to determine how much of each dollar gets to where it does the most bang for the buck.
I understand that there are 'soft' costs involved, but it's good to know the split.

Thanks

Doug Funny,
When giving to an endowed fund you are placing the money into a long-term investment fund. Part of the investment earnings are released for the purpose of the endowed accounts each year. The endowment provides support in perpetuity. Please follow this link here to view the 2014 Year-End Financial Report for the Texas A&M Foundation.

86sq6,
Please visit the Texas A&M Foundation website's The Gift Process page and you will see our fees explained there. This portion specifically answers your question:

We apply applicable fees.
Please note: These fees do not affect the portion of your donation considered a charitable donation for IRS receipting and A&M giving
totals.
  • To fund our operations, the Foundation applies a one-time, 5 percent development fee to gifts. For endowed gifts, the fee is charged when the gift is made and paid as earnings. For non-endowed gifts, the fee is charged and paid when the gift is made. The Foundation uses 4 percent to fund central operations and returns 1 percent to the generating colleges to support their specific development activities. Please note: Certain gifts are exempt from this fee including, but not limited to, non-endowed scholarships.
  • To offset fees from our credit card processors, the Foundation charges a fee (currently at 3 percent) for gifts made via credit card. For non-endowed gifts, the fee is charged and paid when the gift is made. For endowed gifts, the fee is charged against the future income earned in the account; the entire gift is recorded in the endowment principal.
Please feel free to contact me for for any other questions you may have. Have a great weekend!

How are the endowment proceeds directed/used in the endowment funds you noted above?

If I understand your question...the proceeds would fund whatever the Endowment was originally set up to support.

For example, in my case:

'LTC Roy Tisdale '92 Endowed Sul Ross Scholarship'

To set up the Endowed Scholarship, I pledged to give $25,000.

-4% of the original gift would go to the TAMF for administration,

-1% would go to the College that brought in the gift, (Corps of Cadets in this case)

The original endowment is invested and the scholarships are awarded as the investment earns money. I believe that it takes 2-3 years for the Endowment to produce one $1200 scholarship per year.

You can also gift an additional amount if you want the scholarship to be awarded in the time frame while the earnings on the original gift are accruing.

If you continue to add gifts to the original endowment (above the $25,000), then the endowment will award additional scholarships per year.

Kyle, please correct any where that I got that wrong!!! :-)

Endowed funds are directed and used based on a gift agreement between the donor and the Texas A&M Foundation. We provide gift agreements for all gifts and pledges of $25,000 or more. Agreements outline the purpose, form, schedule and administration of gifts. For smaller gifts, donors may document their preference with pledge cards, letters or notes on their checks.

Currently an endowed account is taking approximately 24 months to be awarded. Donors may elect to provide an additional gift to initiate the scholarship at an earlier date. ie. pay the development fee and/or the first year disbursement (payout).

Adding additional dollars to the corpus of an endowed account for a Sul Ross, General Rudder or Corps 21st Century (Corps 21) Scholarship would not make that specific account pay out more to a Cadet. Those "programmatic scholarships" are pooled accounts so that within each named scholarship program we provide an equal payout amount to the Cadets.

There are many details involved with endowed accounts and different initiatives underway to support our Cadets. Please contact me if you are interested to learn more.
