7th Cav (Regiment) is in the 1st Cav (Division). I did not see the pin, but the 7th Cav "Garry Owen" is is a yellow shield w/a raised blue arm holding a saber. The 1st Cav Division is a yellow shield w/a single black stripe & a single black horse head.

Not all of 7th Cavalry is with 1st CD. I am pretty sure one squadron is with 2nd ID in Korea and another with 3rd ID at Fort Stewart.

Having served in the 3rd ID (Battalion Cdr), 2nd ID (ADC-M), and the 1st Cav (DivArty Cdr), I can attest that Denied is right - there are 7th Cav regimental units in all 3 of those Divisions. Its a very historic and proud Regiment (Garry Owen). I enjoyed serving with them in all 3 Divisions.

1st Cav was the last combat troops left in the Delta when I left Viet Nam. Always glad to see that black horse head on the shoulder. The ARVNs treated us like step children when the Cav wasn't around. I was in Construction Engineers....blowing up stuff and building new stuff.

I served in 2-7 CAV and even though it wasn't my favorite assignment, their history was very interesting and Garryowen is one word, not two. On the DUI, the saber splits in two but it's one word. Hate to nit-pick but for some reason that always bugged me.

Actually, it can be spelled as one word or two. The old Irish version is one word: Garryowen. A more contemporary version is two: Garry Owen. Combat Operating Base (COB) Garry Owen was established in the Maysan Province of Iraq near the city of Al Amarra by 2/7 CAV.

Either way, its a proud regiment with a long, proud history. I'm proud to have served alongside many 7th Cav soldiers, NCOs, and officers.

I know all about COB Garryowen, I was in 2/7 when it was set up. The two Infantry companies were pushed out to live in the stadium and sugar shack but still had to rotate platoons back to guard it.
