Not really green to gold, but im thinking about joining the rotc program at Texas A&M.

I was an E-5 in the military and Im thinking about joining again as an officer once I finish school. Is there anyone out there with experience? Is it worth it?

Delta Company has Cadets in it who are/were Green to Gold.
Veterans Resource and Support Center would be a logical place to explore opportunities.
Some of those Cadets work there.

Is it time for one of these threads again? I'm looking forward to rational, objective, and eloquent arguments.

I had several prior enlisted officers I served under. Most were pretty good dudes. If this is your goal or aspiration go for it. Who cares what anyone else thinks.

I was enlisted reserves and reached Sergeant before accepting a direct commission to the Dental Corps. Officer is better in many ways, but not all. Yes, you get paid better. Yes, you get to make more decisions about your day and have more autonomy. You will also have responsibility for not just yourself our you're squad, but for an entire platoon, or section. When before you could ***** with a clean conscience about the policies and decisions you had to follow and enforce, you will now find yourself not just understanding these imperfect policies, but actually creating some of them yourself.

As I always told soldiers who came to me with the question... You still deal with bs, but it's a better class of bs.

Don't worry. We can have one on facebook seeing as how we are friends on there.

I love all the butthurt from trolling my own people.

I think there are plenty on here who would not consider themselves 'your people.'

Got a couple of friends who were prior enlisted and gained commission from TAMU ROTC. They were in D Co (Veteran outfit as previously mentioned).

Could link you up with one of them if you wanted first hand perspective...

Yeah could you pm me? That would be great. I just want more information about it and want to know if it's worth it or if they have any regrets

I did it - pros and cons . But the pay is better as an officer and you don't have to work in scullery or clean heads ( latrines to you) ! In the Corps you will probably resent some of the pheads who don't know about your service or care !

Is the corps like a bunch of spoiled frat boys? Won't I be with other veterans anyway? Keep in mind I'm 25, and I don't really have experience with them other than seeing them at the games and some of my old lts being in the corps. Nothing but good experiences so far. Is the pay the only thing to look forward to? I enjoyed my time in the army being both a soldier and nco.

You will find no spoiled fratboys in the Corps !

Don't know current rules but if you are with Vets and don't go through a Frog semester it's not regular Corps.

BigJim, not sure when you were in Delta Company. Some adjustments have been made, including being able to wear insignia that identifies your combat service. This 4 minute video might be helpful: Delta Company: Combat Veterans to Aggie Corps Cadets. Please note uniforms for these Cadets recognize service and accomplishments. Most agree that their involvement in the Corps is value adding and appreciated by all.

Delta also wears a different belt, none of us screw with their people. I've met a few real good guys that were former service the last almost two years.

Sal, as noted earlier in thread, your best bet is to contact VRSC. Many of the staff are veteran students. They would be best informed to help you regarding opportunities, resources, process. VRSC works closely with Veterans Services Office in Financial Aid and the Corps of Cadets has personnel dedicated to helping with financial issues for Cadets, too.

There is a Delta Company Scholarship Fund that assists in defraying the incremental costs associated with participating in the Corps. This is in recognition of their service and understanding these unique students are in their mid to late 20's through early 40's, many with families, have financial and time constraints and demands not experienced by traditional students. 100% of donors' contributions are granted as scholarships to combat veterans in Delta Company.

I was a Frog before going into the Navy - went back into the Corps as a Phead after returning- GCo.Inf .

We had a dorm 12 where about 200 vets were housed. They were older and
pretty well kept to themselves. No distinction re: uniform although some ( and me) wore the ruptured duck (a small metal emblem for all vets ). Don't believe they had to go through a freshman semester like regular Fish or Frog.

We had a fellow Frog vet in our outfit who had had part of his arm blown off in Italy. Although he was treated differently, he went along with all our Frog activities.
