It was also good news, at least for me that my name wasn't on the list.

One of my cousin's Corps buddies in E-2 passed away last summer while serving in the USMC and he was stationed in North Carolina. That may not be defined as dying in the "line of duty" but he was still an active duty Marine officer who lost his life.

Also surprised his name was not listed with his rank, as he was an officer that passed away while on leave.

I wondered why 1st Lt. Brenton Dodgen '09 wasn't honored?

He passed away 14 Oct while on active duty at Fort Hood.

Maybe AFS was only counting combat or training deaths. In no way was I trying to discount the service those who have passed and were not recognized. I was just going off of the AFS reports. Clearly they did not take into account the passing of Aggies stateside.

He will be included in our efforts to Endow a Sul Ross scholarship in the name of each Aggie lost while in service to our country since September 11, 2001.
