Does anyone have any experience with the Army Evening Mess Uniform?

I got the evening mess components for my mess uniform because I am planning on going to something later this month that is white tie and it would be easier than getting a hold of a "white tie with tails." I ordered from Marlow White and was a little suprised when I got the vest and tie and they are both pique fabric. Reading DA PAM 670-1 it seems like the vest is supposed to be pique because it is described as:
quote:
b. Description. The materials are cotton twill, white; polyester and wool-blended fabrics in tropical, white; polyester and wool-blended fabrics in twill weave, white; or polyester-textured woven serge, white. The white vest is singlebreasted, cut low with a rolling collar and pointed bottom, and fastened with three detachable, small white buttons.
However the tie is described as:
quote:
(2) Description. The material is plain white silk or satin, or of the same material as the shirt, without stripes or figures, in a conventional, civilian full-dress style, not more than 2 1/2 inches wide.

Is this right? Or should I return them and look somewhere else? If so where?

So you are upgrading your Mess Dress? Are you getting Mess Whites? I would think that Marlow White would know what they are talking about since they have been doing it for so long.

Its not an upgrade, its an option, you can wear with the same mess jacket either black tie (99.5% of the time) or white tie for those rare occasions where white tie is the dress code. Maybe you are going to the Al Smith Dinner, or the Alfalfa Club dinner or you are a debutante date.

agree, Marlow White has been doing this for 135+ years, so I would go with what they send you.

1 in 1Million would tell you/know the fabric material quoted in the regulation. I also assume you bought a wing tip collar to wear with the white tie and vest. I have seen MANY folks over the years wear wing tip shirt with black tie, which is completely improper.

I've seen one person in 27 years rock the Army Cape.
