Longhorn Band members actually had to pay a $132 fee this school year for the first time in the band's history...to pay for their own practice and travel apparel... because AD Steve Patterson cut $250,000 out of the band's budget. That meant the full band no longer going to the Texas Tech game- a trip that is a huge source of pride for the UT band, because Texas and Tech are seen as the two best marching bands in the state. UT's band director just quit and took the same job at Miami (Fla). (Italics are from the OP).

The two best marching bands in the state..... they're legends in their own minds. They probably look pretty good when compared to each other.

There used to be a t-shirt sold at Inspirations that had a pic of the sip bandsmen with the caption "Hee-Haw called and wants their clothes back". Truer words.....

Well, it is a close contest as to which does the best synchronized prancing.

My fish year when we played tu, their drum major was an little tiny feminine man who pranced around in skin tight white jeans waving his hook'em sign everywhere.

My drum major was a 6' 3" Marine.

And North Texas' Marching "band" out plays them all.

Here's another vote for Prairie View.... they're really great.

I remember very well a game against Rice at Kyle in the early 80's. Rice didn't bring the MOB of course, and I'm not sure they were invited. Anyway, somebody at A&M had the good idea to invite the Prairie View band (I guess the Panthers weren't playing that weekend).... they came to Kyle and got to perform in front of 70,000 people which I'm sure was a thrill for them.... and the Aggie crowd absolutely loved their performance. Very well received.... the Panthers did their "thing" in their style and then the FTAB did their thing, in their style. It was one of the best halftimes I've ever seen at Kyle.

So, Up the PVAMU Band, and we'll just let the Marching Fringe and the Goin' Nowhere Band play amongst themselves.

Good point... The corps costs Wayyyyyyyyy more than that.

I believe PV has marched at Kyle something like the last 8 years or so. Cannot recall the opponent, but that band was a show stopper!! Loved every minute of it and hope they will return at any chance there is an opening on their schedule that fits the aggie schedule! They are definitely a show, and their announcer adds at least half the enjoyment!!

To be fair, in the Aggie band cadets have to pay rent on their uniforms, and pay for some PT gear (which they practice in) through dues.

And rent for uniforms is waaaaay more than $130
