I'm beginning my Master's Program next month and I'm still a little bit lost and confused on what my best course of action is as far as paying for it. I am still on active duty so I will be using milTA to pay for some of it but it looks like to me that milTA only covers the first $250 per credit hour and my MA program costs $492 per credit hour.
So I'd like to use the top up benefit on the GI bill but I'm not quite sure if I should keep it as the MGIB or switch to the 9/11. The VA website has a bit of info describing how each is billed differently but I don't think I'm completely understanding the real world effect on my benefit. It looks like one is based on dollars and one is based on time in training. Ideally my program will take me somewhere between 2.5-3 years to complete. I obviously want to pick the option that leaves the most amount of my GI Bill available for future use for either a PhD or transfer to a dependent. (which would mean making it 9/11 obviously)
I'd appreciate any advice or experience any of you have with this process.
