Future BIL is active duty army. I have a baby on the way, and doc recommends family members in close contact with baby get TDAP vaccine? Anyone know if this is part of the panoply of shots new recruits are given?

Based off this site http://usmilitary.about.com/od/theorderlyroom/l/blvaccinations.htm it looks like they get the TD component, but not the AP component. T = tetanus, D = diphtheria, AP = acellular pertusis (whooping cough). But I'm not sure how accurate that site is. I know the Navy recorded my Tdap in my record and didn't give me a booster when I went through.

Why don't you just ask him? He can access his vaccination records.

Maybe? Had two kids while on active duty. Never had to get an my special shots (no Small Pox) until overseas). I imagine they are part of the normal vaccinations that make you end up on 1SGs hit list for MEDPROS violators. Don't think there is anything to worry about.

Plus they seem like the normal battery of shots you get as a civilian so again prolly no worries.

Have him access his medical records via AKO in front of you

My Army nurse daughter said "The service member should be able to see his shot record on Medpros through AKO." Whooping cough is a threat these days. I had it last year and gratefully wasn't around any infants!

Our last baby, my wife told me to get tdap. Swung by medical, got a shot, went on my way. I'm sure I had one recently, but it isn't a bad shot to repeat early and the military loves repeating shots anyway.
