Why don't we mic up the band? The new acoustics combined with the placement of the band make it hard to hear. I know LSU does it. Would love to hear the band thundering through the (hopefully soon to be fully operational) PA system. Sir?

440 players or whatever they have these days isn't enough?
Are you by chance a drummer?

I'm friends with a drummer who I have seen play in a lot of small venues and he plays very loudly. The first time I saw him in an arena, I noticed he had microphones on his drums. I guess that was to make sure Ronnie's vocals didn't overpower the drums

I sat first row 3rd deck south EZ, and couldn't hear them. And it wasn't even close. So, no, it's an acoustic issue.

I was a BQ.

The Aggie Band has made a lot of strides musically with Dr. Rhea, but musically it still pales in comparison to most college bands. The musicianship of an average BQ is not going to be close to an average college band member. You are never going to get the volume of sound that other big bands put out.

It's not about being better or worse, the Aggie Band is just focused on very different things.

I would not mind mics.

Say what?

To be accurate, you're not going to get the sound of other bands, because the BQs don't stop and point all the horns the same direction. Or slide sideways, again with all the horns pointed at the home stands.

And today's Band is quieter than 40 years ago. More females, and females tend to pick woodwinds, not brass.

I agree those are all true, but I don't think that's the real reason. We're all pointed the same direction in the stands and still not as loud.

Head drum major 1975-76: Mic Comley. Did the arrangement of "Patton" the Band currently uses.

Class of '15 BQ drummer here. When we played in venues such as today's game and in bowl games, the band does have a mic or two placed in front of it that project out over the loudspeakers. We are mic'd for every televised game, but these microphones are more for the broadcast rather than to be projected over the loudspeakers.

They could use some of those alternates to run the mixing board and for the cables, there could be a position of microphone fish.

Tuning is actually a big part of getting the biggest possible sound from an ensemble. Tuning isn't an FTAB priority.

To me, the FTAB (Miss State) sounded great tonight. They were loud and their halftime show was excellent.

My question is were they miked in the stands??
