Ian Moss '18, a second-generation Aggie from Southlake, Texas, was named the new mascot corporal to Reveille IX. Ian's responsibilities also accompanies new rewards. The construction science major is the recipient of the Lusk '73 Mascot Corporal Award, a yearly stipend awarded to the cadet chosen as mascot corporal to help pay for university costs. The recognition adds to the Nancy L. (Evans) Matz '73 and Jack W. Matz '71 Sul Ross Scholarship, an endowed academic scholarship that provides Moss yearly stipends during his time at Texas A&M. "It is a great honor for him and shows that his hard work as a freshman was noticed. We are also excited because we should get some great pictures with Ian and Reveille,' said Nancy Matz '73, who funded the endowed scholarship with her husband Jack Matz '71 through the Texas A&M Foundation.

Why was a new mascot corporal named in September? Isn't that usually decided at parents weekend?

If I remember correctly, he's always been the mascot corporal, I think the Foundation is just being very slow in announcing it.

That is correct, Ian was named mascot corporal this April during Parents' Weekend. Thanks for clarifying! We wanted to highlight and congratulate Ian for receiving a Sul Ross scholarship, a program that has helped cadets with financial support since the early 1980s.

You people are putting some awfully weird numbers after the students' names these days. Someone should look into that.
