So I was going to post this on the job network, but this is more of a question asking for advice from other veterans.

At what point outside of the military did you find your job/career as gratifying, valuable and desirable as what you did in the military? And if so, how?

I've acknowledged thus far, after a few years outside of college, that no other career will be that as the military since it was a lifestyle. As far as camaraderie, structure, and professionalism that was pounded into the military mindset.... not so much as a civilian.

Thank you

At no point have I found my civilian career as personally gratifying, nationally valuable, or generally desirable as being in the service. I enjoy many aspects of my current profession, most importantly the extra time spent with my family; my wife and children very much appreciate the better hours, absence of prolonged departures, geographic stability, and better pay.

Immediately. But I am in federal government service, so I am not sure how "civilian" you classify such a job. That being said, I chose my next career to try to scratch the itch of service to my country while giving me more stability.

Add money and this is me as well.

Immediately, because I went to work for myself, and I'm sure partly because I was happy to leave Washington DC. I retired 25 years ago from the Air Force, and my final assignment was the Air Staff. Believe it or not, that was a very rewarding and satisfying assignment, but I was glad to see the Pentagon in my rear view mirror.

I love my current gig, but there is no substitute for being deployed with a solid group of guys.
