I have a cousin who is considering a transfer from Blinn to A&M. Is there a place for him in the Corps as he would be arriving as a Junior? I recall an off campus Corps unit for married's, etc, but didn't know if that's what he should be looking into or if there was a different landing spot. He isn't married if that changes things.

There are Transfer outfits. He'd do a semester as a fish, one as a jr and a year as a senior. Not really worth it imo to skip over 1.5 years as a blackbelt. Also the quad doesn't really respect people that transfer in as juniors typically due to their lack of time in the lower classes.

I agree with Charlie Brown. One of my '01 buddies actually started at A&M as a non reg with the class of '99. He decided to join the band after two years, fished in normally, and did his full four because in doing his due diligence before joining he found that frogging in would have him missing out on the most important parts of the Corps experience.

I wonder if your buddy could fish in and do the full four, maybe the last two as a grad student?

Unless he wants a military career via ROTC, why bother joining the Corps two years late at all? Key to the cadet experience is the class solidarity that's gained from going thru all four years together (particularly the hellish first one) and he won't get that. If he's a good guy, he'll be tolerated, but that's about it. The Corps isn't the only route to becoming a good Ag.......

Almost positive you can do the full four with part of it as a grad student.

75% of the Corps experience is fish year. 20-24.9% is being a Zip after having gone through 3 years of the Corps. Somewhere between 0.1-5% of the Corps experience is being a Head & Butt. I do not know how satisfying being a Zip would be w/out those 3 preceding years (especially fish year), I would guess less than 10% of what it would otherwise be. As a frog he would miss between 93%-97.4%* of what being in the Corps is all about.

I recommend joining as a fish & then jumping to his University class the following year, staying w/his corps class & becoming a Zip the semester before he graduates. I know guys who took those approaches & seemed to get the most out of it. Alternatively, as folks have recomended he could do grad school to add years.

That being said I graduated a long time ago, everything is probably different.

*Because being a Zip w/out Fish, Head, Butt years is only 10% or less of being one w/those 3 years.

I will mention this, at class reunions, 99% of the conversation revolves around the fish year. I have mentioned that many times in such circumstances. Since it has been 42 years ago I still remember so many things from the fish year but little about the other three. '74 member.

Not to be negative, but with so little time left, its not worth it in my opinion.
