I've made it a priority in 2016 to do some more volunteer work and get involved. Naturally, as a Vet, I'd like to help out with other Vets and even the wounded warriors. I'm here in San Antonio and have donated to the Fisher House and am leaning towards them in some capacity. What I really want to do is help wounded warriors in an athletic capacity... used to be a personal trainer and play Ultimate Frisbee and was wanting to put something together later on down the line to help the wounded with either free training or organizing/teaching Ultimate games.

Just looking for advice or guidance from anyone on here that knows of any good opportunities. I know a coworker and fellow poster (AdamAg) does Team RWB stuff but due to my nature (read: introvert) I think asking for donations/fundraising is probably my least favorite thing of all time. I'd like to do something such as the aforementioned activities or just something else not fundraising related (cleaning houses, organizing, whatever).

Thanks!

I'd suggest contacting your local RWB and see how you can personally and physically help. Otherwise, contact Ft. Sam. The MWR may be able to point you in the right direction. Can't thank you enough for your willingness! And I'm an extrovert and hate sales. I get it.

Are you physically fit and like swinging hammers? If so look up Team Rubicon. We are a disaster relief organization that specializes in demoing houses and general cleanup. 100% volunteer work. We have several members from the SA area as well. I just left the Glenn Heights area working the tornado damage there. We did unbelievable amounts of work there but far more needs to be done.

It's not necessarily local but if you commit then TR will take care of you. Be it travel expenses, lodging, or food. Great group of people to work with. I am looking to get back out there ASAP.

I was just kidding about the being fit part. It definitely helps but TR will take you regardless. Our head sawyer only has one leg and is one of the best in the business.

I could go on and pitch the whole thing to you but it's better if you just go to the website and see for yourself. In essence it's just good people doing good things in my opinion.
