The cab-over engine design is seldom used in North America but remains very popular across the rest of the globe. It saves space, weight, money and provide better fuel economy when compared to the traditional engine under the hood model.

Biggest complaint to these models is safety. The saying goes that whenever a cab-over is in an accident, it's driver was the first on the scene.

I have a hard time seeing how that flat front is fuel efficient. My guess is that size is the big driver for COEs. European towns and highways aren't as wide open as US, and the cities are generally much more crowded. A COE crams more cargo space into a smaller area. And folks can maneuver them better because they're sitting over the front wheels. It's why you see a lot of them in the US as city delivery vehicles.

They look wierd without the armored cabs. Like seeing unarmored Humvees standing 3 feet off the ground instead of squatting on their spring stops.

Not an LMTV, LMTVs have a single rear axle. FMTVs have a tandem axle

Exactly. The total volume of steel, wires, sheet metal etc, is greatly reduced when you remove 12 feet off the front.
