Got a question for you. Do we still have men in the Corps? Or, are we producing wusses?

Well, every year the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets produces men and women who voluntarily take an oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic -- I'd suggest that takes a bit of courage in today's world. What do you think?

Leaders for the State and Nation. Always glad to know or hire a recent cadet. Know many. Most recent one I have recently run into is a cop. He'll kick anyone's ass six ways from Sunday.

Feel safe knowing any one of them - male/female, black/white/hispanic/asian/etc. left handed/right handed, blonde/brown/red/black haired, short/tall, Southerner/Yankee - is leading troops into combat or a heading a corporation.

So, they are good enough to be selected as Corps Commanders?

Of the ones I have met, all are "good enough" to be selected as Corps Commander.

Unfortunately, there's only one position - its not a participation award. Most don't want it.

If you want it, you have to make grades, demonstrate leadership, have a command presence, not engage in some damn fool conduct which will cost you, and go after it.

Cadets have lots of avenues for leadership in areas they care about, if they want, on (Units, Minor Units, PMC, FDT, RV, Rudders, Recon, etc.) and off (SCONA, MSC OPAS, etc) the Quad.

Since we have only had one female Corps Commander, I am thinking they are.

I have articles written in the 1930's by WWI vets complaining the current generation of kids were too weak, too soft and would not stand for anything. Amazing how those kids who were too soft and too weak managed to defeat the Axis powers.

Moral of the story, no matter how we view the younger generation, they always rise up and prove they can handle the task.

You must have missed the news. Number two has been selected.

And to the OP, shoo, go away.

GEN Anne Dunwoody was selected to command the Army Materiel Command and LTG Nadja West was selected to command Army Medical Command. I guess the entire Army isn't producing any men anymore.

Two in a row! What the hell!

As a major unit SGM, I felt obligated to go through the CC selection process even though I didn't want the job in any way. I didn't want to be the face of the Corps, and I didn't want to have to interact with the Commandant on a consistent basis. But I wanted to put my hat in the ring to increase my chances of being selected as commander of my major unit. Anecdotal, I know. I am just providing an example of why some people just don't want the job.

As a note, unless the board process changed, cadets are well represented. I am sure the commandant could try to push for someone and use the other Bulls to vote a certain way in hopes the cadets split on who they support (basically like Corps block does to Yell Leader elections), but I don't believe that happens. I sat on the board my senior year and the candidates really separated themselves during the process. At no time did the Commandant or his staff interject themselves to a point where I felt they were trying to hijack the selection.

I know that was under a different commandant and maybe the process has changed. But if a female was selected to be Corps Commander, I have little question about her capabilities or the board's motives. Yeah, she probably did better than her male counterparts. It is a pretty intimidating atmosphere. Also, we pretty much knew everyone standing in front of us. Its not like our experiences with the cadets didn't come into account during diliberation. So I doubt this female just popped up from the middle of no where to win this election. I am sure she is well qualified to be there.
