... and have a Corps of Cadets/Fightin' Texas Aggie Band forum and a separate U.S.Armed Forces forum?

I ask because the vast majority of the topics here deal with the former, and if you weren't a CT or a BQ, you have little interest (although I admit to getting a kick out of seeing BGen Ramirez exercising some leadership initiative and squashing rumors about the Corps or the Aggie Band on this forum... good on ya', sir).

There are two worlds: that of the Corps and the Aggie Band, and that of our nation's armed forces. Some experience both, and some don't. Former CTs and BQs like to reminisce -- I get that. Just think that others who want to discuss/debate defense-related topics shouldn't have to sift through " best outfit" threads to find threads aimed at veterans. A former D&C cadet would likely find no interest in an argument over the merits of MARSOC.

Realize that I will likely be accused of casting dispersion on the military aspects of the Corps and the Band, which would be incorrect. Just think the two deserve separate forums.

I don't mind either way, but this is such a slow forum it's not difficult to keep up with the topics, particularly as you can "watch" the posts that interest you. Look down the topics list, for example, your's is the only one to receive any posts in the last 24 hours.......

Your proposed Armed Forces forum wouldn't have enough posts to justify its existence. Your idea makes sense apart from this, but there just isn't enough demand for it.

You could always introduce some sort of subject line protocol:

Subject: [BQ] Are the B-Co Street Fighters still the most redass outfit?
Subject: [USAF] Are there lower PT standards to be a drone operator?
Subject: [Corps] Is Frat membership rampant with current CTs?
Subject: [Military] Watched "Eye in the Sky", how realistic are joint US/UK/Kenya ops?

Just be glad this forum exists.

I don't remember what year, but finally after enough requests for a separate forum and enough complaints about posts on the football board (or threads on the GB getting hijacked and temper flaring), This one was created. The intent was for a joint military and corps board as most of the military posters also were in the corps; along with there isn't enough traffic to need 2 boards.

Hollywood,

Scanning the thread titles, it's already obvious which are Corps and which are military.

This. If there aren't active, new posts in a forum, no one will visit it and it will die (look at Five Star General). In the Military forum, the last 40 posts go back about six weeks, and only 8 of those (or 9, if you count this post) were specifically related to the armed forces. Another 29 were Corps of Cadets related, and 3 were Aggie Band related.

If I recall correctly, many of the posters in this forum were formally posting in Outdoors as they were fed up with the abuse in Politics or General. The content left in Military certainly fits in better here than in Outdoors, but I doubt it could be split further without losing readers.

That said, as a former D&C cadet in the Aggie Band, I am always interested in the military-related posts in this forum. Although I didn't serve myself, I have many friends and family members that do, so I appreciate the more "military-related" posts when they pop up, even when I don't have any personal knowledge or experiences to contribute myself.

Well said Ark03, and exactly my situation, I did Marine PLC and AFROTC, but didn't pursue commission due to less than perfect eyesight. But I have a kid serving now, lots of buddies who commissioned, and I've been a military history and airplane buff forever. In addition, sometimes folks ask about certain bases or forts. I can't tell you squat about USAFA, Shepard, Columbus, Kirtland, or Altus AFB or Ft. Sill. But I know a lot about those areas, and I think I can add some value in that way.

Perhaps the OP doesn't like the buffs and wannabes like me making comments on military threads, and I understand that and am not insulted. But if the OP wants that, he probably needs to go to a forum or Facebook page that limits membership.

Otherwise, as said above, just skip the obvious Corps threads and follow the obvious military threads.

No one needs "credentials" to post on this forum. Our nation's military is the property of its citizens, and funded by their tax dollars. Any citizen has the right -- maybe an obligation -- to be apprised of how their tax dollars are spent, how policy is made. Read, post,... whatever. No one's checking I.D. Cards here.

I'll propose a slight alternative to those that enjoy this board. I'll even reference the Zoo for their posting rules. Maybe beginning your post with the service or the Corps would help those looking to find their posting zone. I don't know that there are enough active threads on this board to feel the need to differentiate, but I'm ok with it. Thoughts?

Where did any one say something about needing credentials to post? I may have missed that part. If that was mentioned, I agree with you - no credentials needed to post or ask questions.

I think the military forum is fine as is. If people want a more "military" forum - there are plenty of others dedicated to such all over. This is a good spot to contact other Ags, both in the military and/or it's supporters. I don't see a need to split it based on the small amount of traffic it gets compared to other forums. It's a nice change of pace from the BS in the politics forum for sure. I wish more military Ags were here, though. It would be awesome to connect with someone before moving to an area. I think that would especially be useful for those guys/gals coming straight out of IET/AIT, OCS/BOLC, WOCS/WOBC schools (or other branch equivalents) and heading to wherever - be it as a reservist or active duty.

I enjoy some of the topics; but what I enjoy most is pushing the buttons of some of the people on here. There are a handful who need to remove themselves from the pedestal they have sat themselves upon and take a step back. Probably all Cav Scouts anyhow

Then there's GA06 who should have just flown helicopters with all the cool kids since he wants to take off vertically.

Totally agree with your post, Canyon. And I don't think this board needs to be split. My only complaint (and it's a somewhat minor one) is that there doesn't seem to be many active duty military who post on this board. In the past, I have started several threads about changes to retirement, military health care, and other current issues and asked for opinions pro and con from currently serving members. In most cases I got "crickets". So while I still post on this board from time to time, I have pretty much stopped asking about current issues that affect military folks.

And Canyon - you are a great poster on this board because your many friendships with military folks give you a good perspective and also your stories about your daughter living the dream. I always enjoy your posts and the insights you have from your daughter's great adventure.
