Arneis is my favorite Italian white. Sucks we can't get more of it.

Dude. That is right next door to Herbsaint, which I love, and I never knew it was there. Hell, we were there a month or two ago eating and I looked online for a good spot for wine and didn't see this place. I suck. I really do.

I cannot adequately express how envious I am of the wines you drink. Holy hell, man.

Also totally envious of the BYO culture of Cali restaurants!

Big fan of all of Donald Link's restaurants. Contemplated going to Herbsaint when we were in NOLA over Thanksgiving but timing just didn't work out.

Legally Texas BYO is just fine. It's the restauranters that aren't.

I thought the law was that if the restaurant sold alcohol, that they couldn't also do BYO?

Mixed beverages no. Although if you ask ahead of time some will accommodate.

Wine/beer, yes, and can charge corkage.

No permit, yes, but cannot charge corkage.

Many restaruants are ignorant of the choice, others just don't want to make the choice. Although if you charge corkage that's more than your average profit on a bottle of wine, it's a no brainer.

Thnx! My understanding was much different.

The problem is that almost all good restaurants serve liquor, so they can't allow BYO. Very few have just a beer/wine permit.

There's more than you think that are beer/wine, especially if you get away from the chain steakhouses. And if you make friends with the wine director, they can find ways to accommodate.

And I want good wine no matter the level of restaurant.

Looking for some help. I'd like to get my cousin and his wife a nice bottle of wine to enjoy for Christmas. I know they spent some time in Bordeaux recently and really became interested in the region. However, that's about all I've got, I don't know left bank, right bank blah blah blah. Is there a few bottles y'all can recommend that are generally agreed upon? Looking to spend around $150. Cheers

Go to specs downtown, large selection. Pick up a nice bottle of smith haut lafite or belair monange or domaine de chevalier. All these are great Bordeaux prices from $100-150. Avoid the 2021 Vintage.

I love Next. I highly recommend it and I wish I could get up here more often. We first went about 10 or 11 years for the Trio menu, which was essentially Alinea's first 5 years of menus. It was incredible. This menu was "Space" and it was more whimsical and creative, but also very delicious (see food porn thread). There were some great flavor combinations and the service was top notch. Hell, at one point my wife was holding her empty bowl in the air trying to find the producer (it was a beautiful bowl) and no less than 30 seconds later a server comes by with a note card with the name of producer and the specific name of the bowl for her to order.

I hope they someday recreate the El Bulli menu, as it closed before I ever made it over to Spain to try it and I missed the Next version of it a few years ago. I'm not sure if they'll do a theme that's already been done, but I'm holding out hope.

The next Next menu is Japan. That should be interesting.

I realize "pics or it didn't happen," but I got to try a 1978 Ch. Margaux on Thursday night. It was exquisite.
