Does anyone here have experience with OEM or aftermarket griddles for gas grills? I've been interested in getting something like this for a while, but I've had a hard time discerning from the various reviews of what I've found online if they're really worth a darn or not. The griddles I've come across seem to be the type that sit down on top of the existing grates as opposed to being drop-in replacements for the grates themselves (with the latter presumably needing to be specific to each manufacturer).

I'm just looking for that switch-hit option for grilling up the occasional smash/drive-in burger, cheesesteaks, and the like in my outdoor kitchen. I'm also amenable to making my own griddle should the general consensus move in that direction. Any thoughts?

I've got a cast iron griddle, probably Lodge brand. I just put it on top of the grates. Takes a bit to heat up, but that's how cast iron goes. I use it for steaks, fajitas, bacon, all kinds of stuff. SOmething like the below. I like cooking on cast iron though.

Same here. Use the hell out of it.

Weber makes a cast iron griddle that replaces one grate on at least the Genesis model (what I have). I love it and use it more than you would think. You named burgers, but you can also do veggies, bacon, eggs, and put a mean browning on boring chicken breasts (pounded flat). Have also got it smoking to sear steaks.

It is heavy duty, and you can grill on the other side as well. Not cheap, but I would recommend it.

I've got the big lodge one.. It covers two of the burners and heats up nice.

I've been happy with this. I've only used it to make burgers and bacon. To make cleanup easier you want to dampen some paper towels and put them in the drip tray on the front of the griddle. I bought it solely because I prefer flat top cooked burgers. This is the only way I cook burgers now.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has any more recent experience with griddles on gas grill tops.

I have a Weber Spirit series and see that they make a drop griddle in to replace the grates which would be ideal. However, it looks like it drops in and sinks too low and some of the reviews are iffy on the new design, so wanted to check to see if anyone had any recent experience. It's also 3x the price.

I feel like the Lodge option might be a safe way to go, but wondering if the Weber product is really worth it.

I have a Fulgor Milano gas range. Paid for the OEM griddle because it fits snug.

I have fabricated griddles for gas grills for several folks including some major catering clients
They work best if they sit on or real close to the burners. Sitting on top of the grates takes a long time to reach temps.

I bought something from a company called steelmade for the weber grill we inherited with our house. Fit is a little off, but it works pretty well. Kind of feel like they should have had a standard size for a common grill like the weber genesis.
