Major upgrade to the back pool area.

What should I look for in a propane grill? Propane will be piped in from a large tank. I've had a decent all SS one that's now about 20 years old and has had new burners/splash plates/grills at least three times, so I'm ready to get a new one. Not going full on outdoor kitchen, but do want quality. I see grills from $200 to $10,000. Budget is not a huge consideration, but I'm not thinkin' 10 grand either!

Any thoughts/suggestions/experiences are greatly appreciated...

I had a cheap, small propane grill in college. Did many a steak and lots of burgers, dogs, and sausages on it.

It lasted my thru college, my first marriage, my single years, and the first couple years of my good/current marriage. It was small, but thick cast iron tub and grates. I replaced burners multiple times, and even the glass in the lid once, but everything else stayed rock solid.

For my 40th birthday, my wife and step sons thought I needed an upgrade. I reluctantly went along and got a big stainless 4 burner grill. I put my old grill out by the curb and it was gone within 30 minutes. Can't say I didn't shed a tear.

I'm on my second grill since then, and about to have to replace the current one. The bottom is rusted through, and it needs burners, but it's not worth replacing them. The drip deflectors are rusted through too. (It's a Dyna-Glo. Had good reviews, but I won't get another.)

I wanna say that old cast iron one was a Sunbeam? I wonder if they still make them. Or if I could get it back from whoever picked it up at the curb? I bet it's still serving someone well!

Moral of the story: "Stainless" often isn't, especially when it's thin...

I've had a few DCS and RCS builtins and both have been reliable. I think they have cart models too if needed.

Recently I added a Memphis pellet grill (also built in) that's been very nice so far. They have a cart models too. Might give you a little more flexibility.

This, but with the caveat that you need to look at a specialty store, NOT a big box store. THD and Lowe's sell their own versions of Weber grills that cut a few corners to bring the price down. The real thing is worth the extra money, and the good news is you can probably buy 8-10 of them if your budget is 10 grand.

Bought my Weber from HD in 2006. Not surprised if they cut corners now but I didn't feel like that was the case at the time. In fact, it came with cast-iron grates, which are still in use. Seems like I've had to change out the flavorizer bars once, but that's expected after years of use and was not expensive. The Weber has been well worth the $.

I just purchased a Blackstone because I wanted a true flat top. It's an awesome piece of equipment as well!

I've heard good things about lynx. That's probably where I'd go if I wanted propane.

Thanks for the thoughts! I'm a couple months away, but Lynx looks good, but a good Weber may be a more efficient choice.

I know not what you are looking for but I would look into a stainless griddle / comal setup.

I have not found anything that a gas grill does better than that setup plus you can do so much more stuff on a nice griddle (eggs, bacon, fried rice, sautes, pancakes, tortillas, etc)

Check out Delta Heat. They are USA made. They are the 304 stainless moderate entry from Glen Eagles. I have one and love it. They run around 3 - 4K depending on a cart model or built in.

1000x This.

My favorite thing about Weber grills is the availability and relative low cost of replacement parts. You can almost rebuild a Weber gas grill every 5 yrs or so for about 1/4 of the cost of a new one.

If cost isn't an issue, get one of the Summit or Genisis models. The build quality is a little better than the lower models and should last a little longer.

Weber is all made in China now, if that matters to you. Broil King and Napoleon are good alternatives but they are around twice as much.

Settled on this:

Aspire By Hestan 36-Inch Propane Gas Grill With Sear Burner

Thanks for all of the input. One major parameter for me was US made. Also availability.

Bought a Weber Genesis from Amazon a couple of years ago. It was delivered a day later than scheduled so Amazon knocked $100 off the purchase price. Great grill.
