Where to start?

Driving from TX to SC this fall. Want to plan out some stops for the trip. Any suggestions on breweries in the south? Two options for the route - I10 along the gulf coast, or I20 a little further north.

Currently looking at this site for suggestions: https://www.craftbeer.com/breweries/find-a-us-brewery

Thought Food board might have some thoughts on the must-do's.

Trimtab in Birmingham makes some of my favorite beer. I haven't been to the brewery, but I love their stouts.

Cahaba also makes some good beer and is in Birmingham.

Depending where you are turning north, Creature Comforts in Athens could be a stop.

Yeah, what's your origin and destination?

Origin is central Texas. I just did I-10 for a trip to FL, so I'm wanting some new sights and sounds. And wouldn't mind going north to 20 if it meant some better beer stops as well.

Final destination is Charleston SC

Either way, Atlanta has some GREAT stops:
Halfway Crooks, Scofflaw, Monday Night Brewing should be at the top of the list.

Athens (a bit out of the way) has Creature Comforts and Akademia.

Here are the breweries I've been to in Charleston (from another thread):
Charleston (roughly in order of preference):
  • Westbrook lived up to the expectations - IPAs, sours, stouts were all great. Their barrel program is tremendous.
  • Edmund's Oast is such a cool place. Huge variety of beers with no losers.
  • Charles Towne Fermentory had some really killer NEIPAs.
  • The Hold is Revelry's barrel aged program. They had some really cool barrel aged ales. Nothing absolutely blew my mind, but I liked the creativity and they were all solid.
  • Two Blokes had some good hazys and it's a cool place. Worth combining with Westbrook.
  • Revelry had a decent selection of middle of the road beers. Their rooftop bar was a great spot at sunset.
  • Baker & Brewer didn't blow me away. Part of that might be the poor service, but I was underwhelmed.

If you decide to take I-10, hit up Parish then NOLA Brewing. If you jump on 59 in NOLA, Birmingham has some great breweries as already mentioned and it is a cool town to visit (I'm partial to Good People and Back Forty).

Asheville also has a ton of great breweries but that would add about three hours to your drive.

Edmunds Oast beer/wine store got ALL of our money.

Oh my my. Edmunds has some fantastic beers. Their current sour with lactose might be my fav sour ever.
