Can someone explain why an enameled cast iron Dutch oven would be that expensive? I genuinely have no idea.

same reason a Toyota is 25k but a Lexus worth the same options is 45k

We have one from Le Creuset that we got at a deep discount. We use it to make incredibly savory dishes that really can't be made on regular steel or aluminum cookware.

It basically evenly distributes heat and holds in moisture really well, with being easy to clean to boot. These properties will be retained through the life of the user unless the enamel gets badly chipped.

That may be retail but they are almost always available at $199 or less. You are really paying for name brand here but at the same time an enameled dutch oven is a great tool that every kitchen should have. I use mine to deep fry, braise, make soups, or large amounts of sauce.

Have no idea how good they are, but I saw Amazon basics has enameled caste iron Dutch ovens for about $60.

iirc the bigger names (ie Staub) have a thicker enamel making them less prone to chip and better lid fit if that's important, but just take care of your oven and it will last

I have a cuisinart enameled oval Dutch oven, it's nice enough and has held up well. When I buy a circular one it'll be a staub. Looked at one in person this weekend and it's noticeably better

Got one at sur la table for that price. Which id known it was on Amazon. Would've saved me a trip. It was a crap ton more than my cheap 6 quartz Dutch oven.
