How many kitchen "devices" are there out there where the cost of the device itself will likely exceed the cost of the ingredients said device is designed to assist with.
You could argue some high end espresso makers (depending on the cost and frequency of the coffee usage) but I think it would be tough to go through $200 in peppercorns unless you went with some pretty rare varieties.
A water filter would be an obvious exception as well.
