My pizza stone cracked in half last night so I'm looking to replace it. Are stones still the thing, or what about steels?

This is used on my 6-burner gas grill.

Pictures of the pizza that killed the stone.

I use 1/2" steel. Pretty heavy so I have 2 separate pieces I use. You can go to a metal store and ask for 1/2" x 8"/10" (or whatever) hot rolled steel and have them cut it to whatever length you need. Clean any loose mill scale off with a flap disk on an angle grinder then apply some cooking oil or whatever and season it. I preheat for at least 45 minutes before cooking.

Get a pre-seasoned cast iron pizza stone. I have the Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Baking Pan.

I went with this because I needed a very specific size.

Get a steel. I got a 1/4in off eBay for $28 and it is more than good enough for making pizzas.

Got 2 of these about 6 months ago (one for inside, one for the grill), they're great because you can get custom sizes to fit your oven. I did a ton of research and ended up on this, i love mine (we make pizza every Friday night):

If you're in Houston I have a used square and two round stones for free.

I went to cast iron. Cooks it so much better.

I also sanded my lodge down smooth and reseasoned it.

Use it for pizza cooking vegetable and other smaller meats on the grill and started using it for biscuits now too.
