Worst list ever.

What a joke...

they used tripadvisor ratings, so no surprise the list sucks.

Isn't that kinda like basing reviews of mexican food on the opinions of people from Canada who think mayonnaise is spicy?

The remaining 10 worst cities for barbecue were: Jacksonville, Florida, in sixth place, Houston in seventh...

...the cities with the highest number of top-rated barbecue restaurants were, in order: Chicago; Los Angeles; Austin, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Houston -- with Nashville and Houston tied for fourth.

Sure...sure. That makes sense.

It's a click bait article, it's entire reason for existence is to say something so outrageously false that it spreads like wildfire.

Here's a sample of a typical Trip Advisor response to a search for "best restaurants in my area":

1. Chili's
2. High end steakhouse
3. Wendy's
4. Chez Expensivo
5. Kroger

The fun thing about most things that list "best" or rank things like restaurants is that they are usually all good. We can argue things like Franklins vs Snows all day long. The truth is we would enjoy a meal at either no matter where we ranked them.

This is a head scratcher on so many levels. I bet many people who live in the cities named top 10 are baffled by the rankings too.

This is the case of having data versus knowledge. Trip advisor throws around rankings without statistics or methodology to define two relative terms best and worst. The main article lists the "best and worst BBQ cities in America."

Then:
"Aside from ranking the best and worst cities for barbecue, Chef's Pencil also found which cities had the highest number of barbecue joints per capita and which cities had the highest number of barbecue restaurants with a 4.5 rating or higher."

Cities listed in those categories start to seem more appropriate for BBQ than what is listed as the best.

It is like someone took a python course and as a homework assignment figured out how to scrape trip advisor data and make a top 10 list.

Also shame on the all the media outlets and websites that publish this junk without proofing it.

Texas is full of BBQ snobs. Any BBQ restaurant that doesn't have a 4 hour line out the door, gets tons of reviews by snobs who say it's garbage. Which means retty much all our BBQ restaurants have lots of poor reviews, which is how this list came about.

They didn't even have Kansas City on the list.

I would add foodies who joined in the fad and are way too picky to that list. Of course these are the same people who would recommend Goode Co. over plenty other better options.

Too many people think BBQ = pork. I blame the east coast. Texas absolutely dominates anything beef related.

Agreed. I'd also argue I've had better pork ribs and pulled pork in Texas than anywhere else.

Who doesn't think Seattle, Newark, and Miami when they think bbq! Y'all need to get out more.

Looking forward to their top 10 list for Thai. I know my list has Fargo, Gilmer, TX, and Idaho Falls for that one.

Houston with Killens, Corkscrew, Roegels, Truth, pit room, Pinkertons, Gatlins, etc, is among the worst. LOLZ. I'm sure I misssed a few great places but the Houston bbq scene went from majorly lacking to red hot over the past 5-10 years.
