Anybody ever make homemade mozzarella? Just reading about it, it looks easy. Any pitfalls? I thought it might be a fun grandkid thing like making butter.

It is not hard at all

But I am not sure the actual making of it would be that interesting to a young kid because it involves standing over a stove heating the milk and then later stretching the hot curds.

Doesn't hurt to try though

I've made it twice. The first time was great; the second time was a curdled mess. Either the rennet was bad, or the milk was pasteurized at too high a temperature.

I made ricotta with my then three-year-old, and it was exactly like Tanya described. Kids that young just have a SHORT attention span and curdling milk just isn't that exciting to them. Just speaking for my own kid, I still had fun.

It can't be UHT milk. I know that much.

Has anyone purchased Buffalo Mozzarella from a new place in Blanco that makes it?

I think Buffalo Mozzarella is the best.

I'd start with making homemade whole milk ricotta. It's way easier, and what you end up with is exponentially better than anything you can get in the store. Plus, you have the beginnings of any cheese filled pasta recipe, or can leave it plain and serve it with berries, honey, and some mint. If you want to go further, you can press it and dry it for a day or two and end up with queso fresco.

It's not hard, just not really worth the effort. If I'm making cheese I want better taste or less time

They aren't selling it yet. Their Gelatto is fantastic and I picked up some Wagyu steaks there that turned out to be some of the best I've ever made
