Looking for some recommendations on a parilla or Santa Maria style grill. Have a good size offset and a Weber Genesis but want an open flame live fire cooking apparatus instead of using the fire box of the smoker

It would be though to beat a Mill Scale

You can also find a ton of fabricators that can make you one for about 1/3 of the price of a Mill Scale. I know Mill Scale makes great stuff, but that seems like a bit of overkill for a grill that started out as a 55 gallon drum cut in half with some angle iron for framing and a grate raised and lowered by a wheel using bicycle chain.

I've had my eye on something similar by a company called barebones - barebones 30 inch cowboy grill. It has tracks where the grate can circle around the pit and can also raise up and down. Much cheaper at $600 too. There just isn't a lot of info aside from the company's own marketing, and it only comes with a limited one-year warranty, so not very impressive.

I have a Mill Scale smoker but if I were to get another cooking apparatus like a Santa Maria or pig smoker (and I will), I'm getting Backline Fabrication out of Dripping Springs to make it.

Built this one to replace a regular propane unit. The one below it just because. It uses a 1/4 hp electric motor ran through a garden tractor 5spd transaxle and some gearing. It will take the 1725 rpm motor down to 1.5 rpm on the spit rod.
