What I got served at Doc's in Corpus amounted to a margarita in a martini glass. When I suggested "dirty" with a jalapeño olive and juice, he looked at me like I'd just stepped off a space craft of some sort.

Am I mixed up with the olive and jalapeño? I've sure had them that way before…..

Lime juice
Optional orange liquor. I prefer orange bitters

Shake, strain over a fresh sliced jalapeño, serve. Garnish with olive. Or jalapeño. Or both.

Sometimes it's shocking how little some bartenders know about their craft.

Once I was at a poolside bar and I asked for a daiquiri on the rocks. He looked really confused and told me that frozen is the only way daiquiris come. I said a real daiquiri is just rum/lime/simple. He said "that's all you want in it? And not frozen? I've never heard of that"

Unfortunately this is why you need to know the ingredients and measures in the cocktails you prefer to drink. Some people hear the word daiquiri and all they think of is hurricane glass filled with a frozen strawberry or banana drink. There's plenty of bartenders out there that don't know how to make a proper martini or old-fashioned. There's plenty of them that think sour mix is what goes in a proper margarita or whiskey sour rather than freshly squeezed juice.

I prefer using the liquid from a jar of pickled jalapeños bc I think olives are disgusting. A good alternative for those with good taste like me.

I hate olives in any food but love them in gin martinis (and Mexican martinis). Something about the booze makes them perfect.

Have you tried replacing Gran Marnier instead of using Triple Sec & brandy?
