All-knowing TexAgs food board, please steer me to some good eats in our nation's capitol. Is DC known for any specific food type? There are adults and teens in the group, so we need some spots that will satisfy both - casual is good, nothing too swanky please. No specific cuisine in mind, no one is too picky of an eater. Thank you!

Can't go wrong with any Jose Andres spot if you're looking for tasty high-end ***** Zaytinya is a greek tapas spot that is amazing

Nothing too high end. Teens (and I) probably won't appreciate it.

Ben's Chili Bowl. Cold beer and chili dogs. Get the half smoke.

Loved Old Ebbitt Grill and Ambar. Something different but great was Rasika. Interesting take on Indian food. There are so many great places.

Rasika is great, but far from casual.

If I was looking for instant diarhea then I'd hit up Ben's Chili Bowl. I thought it was gross.

Old Ebbit Grill was pretty cool spot with a lot of history, but not sure about with kids.

If you go to the capital or library of Congress go in the morning and hit Pete's Diner for breakfast or lunch. Definitely not fancy but good and cheap. Might see some Congress peeps eating.

Failed to mention you and kids w like Founding Farmers. Breakfast lunch or dinner. Reservations a must only because of crowds but not crazy fancy. Cafe Milano is good too for Italian.
Good Day.

Lost Rhino Brewing is very close to the airport and has excellent food & beer. Very casual. Arcade games.

We also enjoyed Vue, but it's pretty trendy and not as casual/low key.

Supra is a Georgian restaurant. Get any of the cheese breads. apparently the one with egg is the most famous, but we had the imeruli and it is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. If anything go grab a drink and order cheese bread.
Staff - take out the trash.

Ted's Bulletin - homemade pop tarts; great breakfast/brunch menu but I've never had lunch/dinner there

Founding Farmers - great for any meal

Farmers and Distillers - great for dinner

Old Ebbitt Grill - dinner can be pricey but breakfast isn't bad

The Hamilton - good for dinner but can be a bit pricey

If you want to splurge on a cocktail I have two pricey suggestions:

1) The Vue rooftop bar sits atop Hotel Washington and has spectacular views of the entire Mall, Arlington Cemetery, and the residence of the White House. I know the restaurant side is open to all ages but I'm not sure about the bar area. Maybe call ahead?
2) The bar at the Waldorf Astoria (formally the Trump hotel). This is the Old Post Office and the interior is incredible. Since it also serves food, teenagers should be okay there.

Howdy. Definitely recommend Chinatown Express. We were told it was a must by a local on a plane ride to DC. It did not disappoint. It is on our to do list the next time we get back to DC.

Good review of it here…https://www.washingtonian.com/2007/02/15/chinatown-express/

Old Town Alexandria we like brunch at Chadwicks ($10 all day parking lot right across the street) and Virtue Feed & Grain for lunch/dinner. Lots of great places in Old Town if you want to get out of DC.

If you have not gone to DC yet, may want to consider eating in the Capital building. Lots of choices in the Cafe area. Not like you'll get to eat there often, so it may be worth the visit for your group. I went there in June during a school field trip and there is something for everyone. You can also schedule a tour to add to it.

The prices may not be accurate but it is a different experience.

Bistrot du Coin near Dupont Circle in D.C., you MUST try their hanger steak with shallot compote. I recommend asking for some bearnaise sauce on the side. Heaven!

Agreed on Zaytinya and Rasika. Solid and consistent spots.

A high end spot I recently enjoyed was L'avante Garde. My recommendation is the beignet with foie gras as a starter, poulet as an entree, and the raspberry macaron for dessert. Fantastic!

"Casual is good. Nothing too swanky please"

"Go get the beignet with foie gras, poulet, and a macaron. Round it out with a bottle of wine for the adults and drop a cool $700 on a casual meal for the family."

I love TexAgs.

But lots of other good recommendations on the list. Lots of mainstays like Old Ebbitt, Pete's, etc. I like Filomena but pricier and needs a reservation. I liked Pisco y Nazca as well.

If you're walking around DuPont circle or in the area of one of their other locations and want a cheap, quick snack while walking stop by Julia's Empanadas.

But really, due to the international influence and populations, there is a wide variety of food. Try something you normally wouldn't at home. Just try a local place and look up a few quick reviews to make sure it's above average before going in.
