After seeing the place on Texas Bucket List recently, I checked out Wildflyer Mead Co just south of Navasota on 6 and I have to say the place and the mead were both impressive. Not knowing much about mead until my visit, I found it to be a lot like cider, but the added flavors really stood out. Most of the mead is between 7-12% ABV. Definitely worth the trip if you're bored and looking for a place truly off the beaten path.

I love Wildflyer. The meads and the venue are great. 25 minutes from central CS is not a bad drive at all.

If you're driving from BCS you'll pass Threshold Winery on 318 heading to Wildflyer. I highly recommend a stop there as well. They don't produce enough to support a wine club yet but wines are great and they use Texas grapes (not just juice). There is a play scape for smaller kids and they have several farm dogs greeting guests. The property used to be a Christmas tree farm before the family converted it to a vineyard and winery.
