I've never seen or heard of this before but it happened to me yesterday. I was roasting garlic in the oven and one of the cloves straight up exploded and there was garlic everywhere in the oven. I was able to clean it up last night after the oven cooled off but it wasn't a fun task at 7:30. It was on every surface of the oven. Since the pieces were small it didn't take long to resolve but the smell was pretty intense last night, though it has subsided a good bit today.

Anyone ever had this happen before?

No, but I usually cut off the top of the garlic head and then drizzle it with olive oil. That may be why it hasn't happened to me.

It was just a few cloves, which I've done countless times in the past. It only happened to one of the three but that one made for a big mess. Next time the garlic is going in some foil. The scent of burnt garlic is far from what I want my home to smell like.
