How long do you want to ignore this user?
I made a pot of shrimp, redfish, mussel gumbo yesterday. I made my roux with peanut oil and flour and stirred it a long time and got it to a nice old copper penny color. MZ R was in Houston for the weekend visiting the GD so as I consumed one too many adult beverages, I forgot the rice. Was it still gumbo? Also made some cornbread using buttermilk and with jalapenos and bacon in the mix. I added in some crunched up chicharrones .......was it still cornbread ? Inquiring minds want to know.......then I watched the game.....

Okra was included.......I was not sufficiently intoxicated enough to forget the okra....... I was however to watch the entire game.......wish I could get paid big bucks like that to go 4-3

We live in Washington state - fresh okra doesn't exist - our gumbo is made sans okra - unfortunately

We did put calamari in our gumbo last night and it was delicious.

The proper way to serve gumbo is with the rice on the side so definitely Gumbo.

It was actually a joke. I wouldn't put it in gumbo either. That is one weird looking animal and I agree its flavor is nothing to write home about. I had it a couple of times as part of the omikase at Shiro's places in Seattle. Much rather have the varieties of salmon that are in season, or Hama Hama oysters.

That's a seafood stew, not gumbo.

Never done either. Too easy to make.
