I've once again be elected by The Wife's family to cook the bird for Christmas. It will injected, spatchcocked and put on my son in law's pit. Any favorite rubs for turkey?

Posting my all purpose rub to get roasted and lambasted for it.. I used this on some boneless turkey breast and added a bit more paprika for the color. It can be scaled up/down pretty easily.

2 T coarse black pepper
1 T kosher salt
2 t adobo seasoning (sometimes times I'd use Tony's or slap ya mama or whatever but the adobo seasoning I like has msg so I've used it more)
1 t garlic p
1 t onion p
1 t paprika
1 t chili p
1 t cumin
1/2 t jalapeno powder (you can go more if you like it spicier)

If my wife's family selected me to cook the bird for Christmas, I'd show up with a smoked Prime Rib roast and say "Oops, I misunderstood"

Your ratios look about like my "8-6-4-1" rubs without the sugar.

8 parts brown sugar, 6 parts salt, 4 oz black pepper, 1 oz garlic powder, onion powder, & paprika. For Turkey and chicken I add 2 parts poultry season made by combining equal parts dried sage, dried thyme, dried marjoram, dried rosemary, & ground ginger in a spice grinder.

For those of you who were told there would be no math, by ounces that makes 22 oz rub

Ratio looks about right. Mine's just without the sugar because it turns out a)I really don't like sugar in a rub unless it's pork and while I love ribs, pulled pork is just meh to me and b) since going to my ez bake oven pellet smoker, I realized how much of the sugar wound up as caramelized napalm and it really sucked cleaning off the grates so I don't use it at all any more.

Hard to go wrong with #16 mesh black pepper, garlic powder, and a little sweet paprika.

Maybe someday you'll learn how to cook a turkey well.

Why on God's green earth would you smoke a prime rib roast?

Perhaps. On that day I'll be so filled with gratitude I will declare it to be a day of "Thanksgiving"

And it still doesn't make sense…..

A prime rib on the pit is ambrosia. We're not talking "smoking a brisket to well done and tender" here, we're talking roasting over (or offset) mesquite coals to medium rare.

Haven't used it for turkey but this is my favorite rub that I've found so far for chicken so I bet it would be great on turkey as well.

Different strokes for different folks ........ be a pretty dull world if we all thought the same. How about frying one in an air fryer ................
