After the Snowfall in the Swamp, what's the outlook for this crawfish season?

Surely one of our OB geniuses can create a photo of a mud bug with a tiny microphone giving his outlook……

It's basically a 2 week shutdown due to the weather. Even before that, most places were not open, or at most had 5-10 sacks a day and sold out daily of course. In that article, they compare it to last year, which was probably a historically slow start to the year, almost a month behind normal opening dates. So even with this setback, it's still comparatively much better than last.

My supplier is saying it's just a hiccup, going to be a historically good year. Looking like Super Bowl crawfish...

Boil House on 11th has been open a few times already this year so I assume there are some crawfish out there.

The farms are loaded with crawfish, unlike last year, but the cold weather sent them into the mud and not going to feed, which means not getting caught and sent to get eaten. It's going to be a very good season, it just got put on hold due to the cold weather. Anyone who does any real volume wont know until thursday probably at the earliest if they will have and a meaningful supply of bugs this weekend. Should be back in good order by next week though for sure.

Production up and price up. Crawfish seems to be the only product who's price never goes down.

I prefer smaller crawfish. Not tiny, but not huge either.

One of my guys had these on Saturday at Fish City Grill in SA. He said they were decent size and fresh. $10.99 lb. Last season this place had em at $14.99 lb.
If you haven't tried their "hair on fire" sauce, it's habanero heaven.

It really wasn't an answer to your question, sorry. But I interjected my opinion. It just seems like they taste better.

They were not small, but not huge either. I'd say for this early in the season they were very nice. We ate all 100 pounds easily!

also $5/lb. some good sized ones in there but also a lot of small ones. all in all not terrible for this time of year.
