I'm German Heritage here. Great Grandfather came from Bavaria.

Learned a lot from my German grandfather on our family recipes. He kept a recipe book that's been handed down the line.

Add your favorite beer to a medium size sauce pan.

Bring to a low boil.

Add brats to the pan, cover with a lid and cook over a low swimmer for 10-12 minutes.

Have grill over charcoal heated to medium-high heat.

Grill Brats until brown & caramelized all over.

Grilled is nice, but usually if I'm making brats I want fast and easy. That means cooked on the stove, medium heat, in a pan with a lid. Pour in half a beer after the second side gets some color, simmer until done. Potato bun with mustard.

Grilled on either a bun or tortilla with provolone or cheddar and Coleman's English mustard.

Simmered in Beer and then browned off on a flat top or grill. Most importantly they need to come from a German meat market and not say Johnsonville on the package

This may not appeal to the low effort or purist crowd, but I enjoy this recipe.

If you're into making them yourself, the Blue Ribbon Bratwurst seasoning from Walton's is pretty damn good.

Good to know. I haven't made my own in a minute because I have Granzin's in New Braunfels. I'll check it out next time I get a wild hair to make my own.

Usually it simmered in beer then into a cast iron skillet for some color. Spicy mustard on a potato bun or wrapped in a tortilla with Colby jack cheese.
